Fujian Hakka earth buildings originated in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. After development in the early and middle Ming Dynasties, they gradually matured in the late Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, and continue to this day. Fujian earth buildings are unique large-scale rammed earth residential buildings in mountainous areas in the world, and are creative masterpieces of earth building art. Fujian earth buildings are located on the hills and have a reasonable layout. They absorb the "Feng Shui" concept of traditional Chinese architectural planning (see Dong Bin's "Modern Feng Shui Essence"), adapt to the requirements of life and defense where tribes live together, and cleverly utilize the mountains. The narrow flat land and local raw soil, wood, cobblestone and other building materials are a self-contained system that is economical, sturdy, defensive, and highly aesthetic. The Chuxi Earth Building Group is located in Chuxi Village, Xiayang Town, Yongding County. It consists of five round buildings and dozens of square buildings. They are located close to mountains and rivers, and are well-proportioned, showing extremely high aesthetic and artistic value. Among them, the Jiqing Building was built in the 17th year of Yongle in the Ming Dynasty (1419). It has a history of more than 580 years. It is one of the oldest earth round buildings among the Hakka earth buildings. Its structure is very unique, and there are 72 rooms in the building. The stairs, one for each house, are very reasonable and amazing.
