Pingyuan county is located in the golden zone of Beijing-Tianjin economic metropolis circle and Bohai economic circle, with Mount Tai in the south, Beijing-Tianjin in the north and 30 kilometers away from Dezhou City. It is 39 kilometers long from north to south and 48 kilometers wide from east to west, with a total area of 1047 square kilometers. Pingyuan county is located in the primary and secondary tectonic units of the earth and belongs to a part of Liaoning-Hebei-Taiwan syncline in North China. On the secondary structural unit, it is roughly zoned from the vicinity of Liutun Village in Tangsan Township to Fangsi Village in Fangsi Town, Yucheng City.

Its west is Aoduan District of Linqing City, and its east is Aoduan District of Jiyang District of Jinan City. The triangle extending from Liutun village to the northeast belongs to Chengning uplift area. There are faults between districts.
