The Big Buddha named "The World's Biggest Buddha" is the Central Plains Buddha, located in Pingding Mountain, Henan. The overall height of the Zhongyuan Giant Buddha is 208 meters, making it the tallest Buddha statue in the world at this stage. The history of this giant Buddha is not very long, and construction only started after entering the 21st century. In order to build this giant Buddha, a government spent more than five years and invested as much as 280 million yuan. After the Zhongyuan Giant Buddha was built, hundreds of eminent monks were invited to consecrate it. On the day of its consecration, eminent monks and believers from Japan, India and other countries came to worship.
Although the Zhongyuan Giant Buddha’s qualifications are still relatively young, the Foquan Temple where it is located has existed for thousands of years. Foquan Temple was built during the Zhenguan period of the Tang Dynasty. There is also a popular folk legend about this temple. It is said that Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty had a dream one day that the Buddha was saving all sentient beings in the whirling soup pool at the foot of Yuzhen Mountain. When Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty woke up from his dream, he felt that the Buddha was enlightening him, so he hurriedly sent people to find the soup pool in his dream. After several searches, I finally found this soup pool.
The water in this hot spring pool is made up of water from hot springs, so it is warm all year round. In addition, the hot spring water contains a variety of minerals, so people feel that their health has improved after drinking this water, so over time this hot spring became known as "Buddha Spring". Later, Emperor Taizong of the Tang Dynasty saw that the Feng Shui here was very good, so he ordered the construction of a temple here. After the temple was built, it was named "Foquan Temple" due to the existence of "Foquan". Although Foquan Temple has prospered and declined several times, it now complements the Central Plains Giant Buddha and has become a place of worship for many Buddhist believers.
In addition to the Central Plains Giant Buddha, China also has a very famous Leshan Giant Buddha. Although the height of the Leshan Giant Buddha is not as high as that of the Central Plains Buddha, the Leshan Giant Buddha carved from the entire mountain is also very spectacular. Regardless of whether you are a Buddhist believer or not, you will probably feel awe in front of the Zhongyuan Giant Buddha and Leshan Giant Buddha.
