Why is there a child's grave behind the famous Grant General Cemetery?

The story happened on 1797 more than 200 years ago. This year, when the little owner of this land was 5 years old, he accidentally fell off the cliff here and died. His father was heartbroken and buried him here and built such a small mausoleum as a souvenir. A few years later, the family wealth declined and the old owner had to transfer the land. Out of love for his son, he made a strange request to the later landowner: the new owner must take the child's mausoleum as a part of the land and never destroy it. The new owner agreed and wrote this clause into the contract. In this way, the child's mausoleum was preserved.

How time flies! A hundred years have passed in a blink of an eye. I don't know how many times this land has been sold or how many owners have changed. The child's name has long been forgotten by the world, but the child's tomb is still there. According to the sales contract, it is well preserved. 1897, this land of geomantic omen was chosen as the cemetery of General Grant. The government became the owner of this land, and the tomb of nobody remained intact in the hands of the government, becoming the neighbor of Grant General Cemetery. It may be a unique miracle in the world to agree that the grave of a great American history creator is adjacent to the grave of an unknown child.

In the north of new york Riverside Park, there is a mausoleum where General Grant, the18th president of the United States and commander-in-chief of the Union Army during the Civil War, is buried. The mausoleum is tall and majestic, solemn and simple. There is a large green lawn behind the mausoleum, which extends to the boundary of the park and to the steep cliff.

Behind General Grant's mausoleum, closer to the cliff, there is also a children's mausoleum. Like most American graves, it has only a small tombstone.

It is a very small and ordinary mausoleum, and people may ignore its existence in other places. But on the tombstone and nearby're signs, there is a touching story conveyed by life:

1979, when the young master of this land was 5 years old, he accidentally fell off the cliff here and died. His father was very sad, so he was buried here and built such a small mausoleum as a souvenir. A few years later, the family wealth declined and the old owner had to transfer the land.

But out of love for his son, the old master made a special request to the new owner of the future land, that is, he asked the new owner never to destroy the child's tomb and let the child rest in peace. The new owner solemnly agreed to write this condition into the contract and kept it all the time.

Things have changed. Later, I don't know how many times this land was resold, and I don't know how many new owners changed. Even the child's name has long been forgotten by the world, but according to one sales contract after another, the child's grave has been well preserved.

One hundred years later, 1897, this treasure trove of geomantic omen was chosen as the cemetery of General Grant. The government became the owner of this land.

The Tomb of the Unknown Son is still intact in the hands of the government and has become a neighbor of Grant General Cemetery.

The tomb of the great historical giant and the tomb of the unknown son live next to each other.

Another hundred years have passed. By the time of 1997, it was the centenary of the establishment of General Grant's mausoleum and the bicentennial of the child's death.

The then mayor of new york, Giuliani, came here to commemorate General Julianne. He also did something that was praised by everyone, that is, he personally wrote this touching story, carved it on the wooden sign and erected it next to the tomb of the unknown child.

Spiritual journey

The story of future generations preserving the tomb of an unknown child for a contract is touching. But think about it carefully, the reason why this child's mausoleum can be preserved is actually supported by love.

If the deepest thing in the world is the human heart, then love is the core of the human heart. With love and humanity, people can be called human beings!
