Baolin Temple is located at the east foot of Meihua Mountain in Maocun Town, Tongshan District, Xuzhou City. It is the best Feng Shui treasure land in Meihua Mountain. Back then, it was a place with green cypresses and pines, plum trees and bamboos. The beautiful Zizhu Baolin Temple was even more solemn and Buddhist. It has a unique connection with Buddhism, a profound cultural heritage, a long history of connection with Buddhism, superior nature, humanities and geographical location, a precious place and famous temple, and a perfect combination of natural beauty that complements each other. Because there are many purple bamboos around the temple, it is named: "Zizhu Baolin Temple". Baolin Temple was built in the fifth year of Qianlong (1740 AD) and has a history of more than 270 years.
When Emperor Qianlong visited the south, he went to Baolin Temple to burn incense and worship Buddha. During the temple's prosperous period, Baolin Temple had more than ten palace buildings and more than a hundred gallery rooms. The palaces were majestic and magnificent. Inside the temple, bells are ringing and incense smoke is lingering. Outside the temple, plum blossoms and bamboos are shaded, lush and green, the scenery is pleasant and beautiful. At the end of the Qing Dynasty and during the Cultural Revolution, Baolin Temple was burned down, and only a stone tablet of "Purple Bamboo Forest" remained. In 2009, the Tongshan District Government of Xuzhou City, the Maocun Town Government, and the Meizhuang Village Committee decided to rebuild Baolin Temple. The construction was undertaken by Buddhist disciple Zhao Yunfeng, and it has been handed over to Buddhism for free for propagation of Buddhism.
The current host of the temple: Shi Hongxue. Opened to the public in January 2010, it is a very simple temple. It has become a custom in the local area to attend temple fairs every year.
