Where did Mount Tai come from?

The details are as follows:

1. Pangu’s head turned into Mount Tai

In fact, the belief in Mount Tai occupies a very important position in our traditional culture both now and in ancient times. important position. Legend has it that when Pangu founded the world, Pangu collapsed due to overwork and turned into all things. His head, abdomen, hands and feet turned into the five mountains of our country, his head turned into Mount Dongyue, and his belly turned into Mount Zhongyue. Songshan, the left arm became Nanyue Hengshan, the right arm became Beiyue Hengshan, and the feet became Xiyue Huashan, which is the mountain where Yue Buqun is the leader in Jin Yong's novel.

But the legend of Pangu’s founding of the world was only recorded in the "San Wu Li Ji" written by Xu Zheng during the Three Kingdoms period. Therefore, the legend that Pangu’s head transformed into Dongyue should be after this, and Mount Tai is supreme. Its status has been reflected in the pre-Qin period, and the credibility of this legend is not high.

2. The Legend of Bixia Yuanjun

Regarding the myths and legends of Mount Tai, there is another story that I have to tell about Mount Tai’s grandmother, Bixia Yuanjun.

It is said that after Jiang Ziya assisted King Wu of Zhou to establish the Zhou Dynasty, King Wu thought that the founding heroes should be rewarded for their achievements. However, after much thought, there was no particularly good gift to reward these ministers.

After a few days of thinking, he really came up with a very effective method, so he awarded land across the country to these ministers who had made meritorious deeds.

When Jiang Ziya was enfeoffing the princes, all the famous mountains, rivers and geomantic treasures in the country were sealed off, leaving only Mount Tai, Dongyue. He wanted to keep this mountain for himself, but there was no reward. There are still several people.

Not only did King Wu’s escort minister Huang Feihu take a fancy to Mount Tai, a treasure land of Feng Shui, but he also used King Wu as a threat, saying that King Wu had promised to reward him with this treasure land.

3. Taishan Stone Gandang

There are many legends and myths about Mount Tai. We will not go into details one by one. Let’s talk about one of the more famous Taishan Stones. A dare story.

Legend has it that there lived a man named Shi Gandang at the foot of Mount Tai. He was extremely brave and very prestigious in the Mount Tai area. There is a place called Dawenkou Town fifty or sixty miles south of Tai'an.

There is a family here whose surname is Zhang. His daughter is sixteen years old. She is fresh and natural, beautiful and refined. But beautiful things have always been coveted. As expected, a monster came into the house of this person. Every day when the sun goes down, a monster wind suddenly blows from the southeast. This monster wind blows open the girl's door and blows straight into her house. , As time goes by, the girl becomes sallow, thin, and extremely weak.

The family called many gentlemen but could not cure her, so they picked up the donkey and ran to Shi Gandang's house for help.

When Shi Gandang heard this, he immediately became angry, so he told his servants to prepare twelve pairs of boys and girls, each of the boys had a drum, each of the girls had a gong, and a basin of sesame oil. , twist the cotton into a very thick wick, prepare a pot, a chair, everything is ready, let's go down the demon together.

When it got dark, Shi Gandang lit the wick with a fire, then used a pot to hold the basin, and secretly sat next to it, holding the edge of the pot with his feet. After a while, the southeast wind blew a gust of evil wind. Seeing the wind blowing him over, Shi Gandang immediately kicked with his foot, causing the pot to overturn. The light came on and stung the evil spirit's eyes. At the same time, twelve pairs of boys and girls kicked the pot together. The gongs and drums were beating so loudly that the monster's ears were hurt.

The monster had no choice but to escape to the south, to the Fujian area. Later, a girl from a farmer's family in Fujian got the disease, so Shi Gandang was asked to cure the monster again, but this method always treated the symptoms rather than the root cause. , wherever he went, the monster would flee in the opposite direction, and even after treatment, the monster would still go around causing harm to the girl.

That day, Shi Gandang walked to the bottom of Mount Tai and saw so many rocks on Mount Tai. He also wanted to think about the problem of subduing the monster. The monster was running here and there. He couldn't keep up with the monster's pace. , but I can’t bear the monsters to harm the world. So he thought of a way and went to Mount Tai to find a lot of stones, with the words "Taishan stone dared to be" engraved on them. If there was a monster in the house, he would share one with each other and let them put it on the wall of their home.

In this way, monsters will no longer dare to do evil everywhere.

To this day, Taishan stone is still used as a house guard to ward off evil spirits and keep the family safe.

4. Emperor Dongyue

Emperor Dongyue is the God of Mount Tai, also known as the Lord of Mount Tai and the Lord of the Five Mountains. He ranks second in the Yuqingyuan Palace and ranks first among the Five Mountains. According to legend, it is the fifth generation grandson of King Pangu. It controls people's souls, life and death, nobility and official positions. It is the beginning of all things. From the Warring States Period to the Han Dynasty, Mount Tai has always been the holy place where monarchs consecrate themselves to heaven.

5. Bixia Yuanjun

Bixia Yuanjun is the immortal jade girl Taishan Bixia Yuanjun, commonly known as Taishan Empress, Taishan Granny, Taishan Old Mother, etc. Taoism believes that Bixia Yuanjun Jun "protects all living beings and responds to the nine states", "controls the divine soldiers of Yue Mansion, and observes the good and evil in the world". She is an important goddess in Taoism and one of the most influential goddesses in Chinese history.

As for the origin of Bixia Yuanjun, one theory is that she was a jade girl sent by the Yellow Emperor, and another is that she was a jade girl from Huashan Mountain. But generally as the goddess of Mount Tai, she is the daughter of the God of Mount Tai.
