The Historical Story of Tonggufeng

The cultural landscape of Tongguzhang is also quite rich, including the ancient battlefield of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom and the site of Tongshan Buddhist Temple. At that time, the footprints of revolutionary predecessors such as Gu Dacun, Li Jianzhen and Liu Yongsheng were all over the mountains and rivers here. Tonggu Mountain is densely forested and the terrain is dangerous. Many vivid and magnificent historical plays were staged.

In the thirty-seventh year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1558), Zhang Lian, whose ancestral home was in Baihou Nanshan, Tai Po, led the peasant uprising, taking Tongguzhang as an important base. Records of Tai Po County in the Republic of China: Tonggu Zhang, Yan Chongdong, Fu, Yu, etc. All occupied this base area during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. Qing Qianlong's "Fengshun County Records" contains: Tongluo Lake is flat, all paddy fields, and there is an old mountain temple on the lake. In the Ming Dynasty, Lan Songshan, Yu, Yu and Peng successively occupied bronze drums. Guangdong Provincial Museum's Biography of Guangdong Phase II 1984: Zhang Lian is a native of Wushi Village, Shangrao District, Raoping, Guangdong Province, and his ancestral home is Baihou Nanshan, Tai Po. During Jiajing period of Ming Dynasty, he led the peasant uprising that shocked Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi provinces. In the thirty-ninth year of Jiajing (1560), he proclaimed himself emperor and sealed the dragonfly. A palace (known locally as "Zhanglian City") was found in Houshanpu, wushi village, and a large number of city bricks were unearthed, each weighing about 9 kilograms.

In the third year of Tongzhi in Qing Dynasty (1864), the Kangwang Department and Li Shixian Department of Taiping Heavenly Kingdom moved to Guangdong, Guangxi and Fujian, and once stationed troops in Tongguzhang. Up to now, there are still historical sites such as training ground, Qitouying, Zhongying, Weiying, Jiaodaping and Zoumaping.

Bronze clapping was the base of the Red Guards and guerrillas during the Great Revolution. There are dozens of miles of Fiona Fang in Shengkeng and Liziping at the foot of the mountain, and Soviet areas and township governments have been established. There is a cave near the Seven Sentiments Waterfall halfway up the mountain, called the Seven Sentiments Stone House, which was the command post and conference room of the Red Guards and guerrillas. Revolutionaries, Xiao, Gu Dacun, Wang Wei, Liang Jixiang and others once engaged in revolutionary armed struggle here. There are still revolutionary objects in the cave, such as the water curtain cave with guns hidden, and the shooting bunker stone in front of the cave. 1928, when Li Jianzhen was carrying out revolutionary work here, he wrote a famous folk song: "There are many comrades and sisters everywhere in the stream. Now return to the bronze drum and come to Niigata Prefecture to play Kyushu. " Revolutionary lofty sentiments were widely sung among the masses, inspiring the people's fighting spirit. Bronze clapping was also an important base of the China People's Liberation Army's border column in Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi during the War of Liberation. Shatian town Yuekeng Village at the foot of the mountain has the former site of the headquarters of the first detachment of this column, which belongs to the county-level cultural relics protection unit and contains the desks and chairs of Commander Liu Yongsheng's office. The East Guangdong detachment (the predecessor of the first regiment directly under the border column of Fujian, Guangdong and Jiangxi) sang: "The stars shine on the Han River, the moonlight fascinates the bronze drums, and our magnificent athletes in East Guangdong bravely rush to the liberation battlefield ..."

Meizhou is the most concentrated residence of Hakkas, and there is a saying that "every mountain must have a guest, and no guest can live in a mountain". In ancient times, mountainous areas had a small population, dense jungles, towering old trees, a wide variety of birds and animals, rich natural resources, and easy access to water and firewood. After a long journey, the migrating ancestors will naturally choose these places to settle down. There are twenty or thirty natural Hakka villages scattered among the mountains of Tonggu Mountain, where thousands of villagers live. They work at sunrise, rest at sunset, cultivate and read their families, and their residential buildings and living customs all retain the ancient charm of the Central Plains.

At an altitude of about 1000 meters, there is a village surrounded by shade, and more than a dozen strip-shaped closed buildings are lined up. There is a large paddy field in front of the house, just like a baby carriage, called "Tongzuozhu Village", which is the largest village with bronze drums and is inhabited by people named Zhong. Bar enclosure is a relatively simple type of Hakka residence. Generally, there are several floors on the front, which is called several-bar building. The second and third bars are more common, up to five or six bars. Each bar is a room or hall, with a patio between the bar and the corridor, and the hall in the middle is an ancestral temple dedicated to ancestral tablets. The height of a building is generally one or two stories, and there are a few three stories. Some bars are more than a dozen rooms deep, and there are horizontal "pillow houses" behind them. There are also low miscellaneous houses on both sides of most columns, such as toilets, ash houses, cowsheds and pig houses. There are many rooms in the whole house, from a dozen to more than a hundred.

From the village of El Zoran to the altitude of 1 100 meters, there is Tongluohu village. There is a big stone in the village, which sounds like a gong when struck, hence the name. There is a dragon circle built in the village more than 300 years ago. Phoenix Satellite TV once made a special trip to the village to shoot the story of finding a foreign country, and called it the highest dragon enclosure in China.

Behind the Dragon Circle in Tongluohu Village, there is a large lush forest of geomantic omen, where cranes, magpies, pigeons and finches live, twittering and being very lively. The Wangs still live in the Dragon Circle. Legend has it that when Wang Jiazu was arrested by the Qing court, he fled to the depths of the mountains with his youngest son and built this dragon circle. At the peak of the population, more than 60 people lived, and now most of them have moved to Bingcun Town, Meixian District, Meizhou City, and Baifangzi Town, Xiyang Town, Meijiang District, Meizhou City. There is a large flat land in front of Longjia, which used to be paddy fields, but now it has been transformed into a tea and cherry planting base by Mr. Zhang Qiulin, a Taiwanese businessman, with more than 600 acres.

There is a site of "Tongshan Buddha Country" near the Fengshui Forest in Tongluohu Village, which is the predecessor of Longquan Temple in Yinjiang Shengkeng, Tai Po. According to legend, there was a Tongshan Temple here more than 300 years ago, and the incense was very strong. The abbot in the temple has excellent medical skills. He collected herbs from the palm of the bronze drum and refined them into Gaodan Pill Powder, which cured many patients. In order to repay the abbot for curing his wife's illness, Lan Songshan, the leader of the peasant uprising in the Ming Dynasty and claiming to be the King of Heaven, invested in the expansion of the temple, renamed Tongshan Temple as "Tongshan Buddha Country", and also supported the abbot to build a new temple in Shengjing, Yinjiang, and named it "Longquan Temple".

Now the traffic from shatian town to Tongclapping is very convenient. The bus can go directly to Tonggufeng Hotel near Tongluohu Village, about 20 kilometers away, and most sections are paved with cement roads. Not far from the hotel to the lawn, the cement road has been paved. There are more than 2500 stone steps from the lawn to the top of the mountain, which lasts about two hours.

And ended with a song "Ode to the Bronze Drum":

The towering bronze drum is the highest peak in eastern Guangdong. The mountains are arched and the valleys are towering. There are dense forests, rich grasslands and hidden treasures here. It's a fairy tale. The most is copper lake sigh, creative work, endless!
