There are different opinions on the reasons for the formation of stone dragons, generally there are three types:
First, the theory that King Zhao protected the dragon. Because 1.5 kilometers northeast of the stone dragons is the famous Mausoleum of King Zhao, some people speculate that these stone dragons were built by people ordered by King Zhao during the Warring States Period. The purpose is to serve as his guardian dragon and the treasure of the mausoleum.
Second, the theory of natural formation of crustal changes. Because the ripples on the surface of the dragon are very similar to the traces caused by sea water erosion, and a large number of sea oysters, shells and other fossils can often be collected in the Jiangyao Village area where the dragon is located, some people have analyzed that this area was once It is a vast ocean. As time goes by and the earth's crust changes, the seawater gradually recedes and the sand accumulates. After a long period of river water soaking, washing, drying and cracking, and later being covered by loess, rocks are gradually formed. These stone dragons are actually giant spine-shaped sandstone formations formed by the natural dehydration, solidification, and shrinkage of sand in ancient river channels.
Third, the theory of animal fossils. Because the stone quality of these stone dragons is somewhat special and looks somewhat similar to animal fossils, some people speculate that tens of thousands of years ago, a huge reptilian vertebrate lived in Jiangyao Village, which looked like a dinosaur, but The body is much larger than that of dinosaurs, and there are fewer of them. For some reason, some of the "dragons" fell down in the sand and died, gradually turning into fossils.
