What's under the Tiger Hill?

The most fascinating monument in Tiger Hill is Jianchi, the tomb of He Lv, the king of Wu. Looking from Qianshi to the north, the four characters "Tiger Hill and Sword Pool" are engraved next to the circular cave entrance, which was originally written by Yan Qi, the only son of Yan Zhenqing, a great calligrapher in the Tang Dynasty. On the stone wall in the round cave, there is also the inscription "Fenggu Yunquan", which was written by Mi Fei, one of the four great calligraphers in the Song Dynasty. There is the word "sword pool" on the left wall of the cliff, which was handed down by the great calligrapher Wang Xizhi. According to local records, under the sword pool is the burial place of He Lv, the king of Wu. The sword pool is about 45 meters wide and 6 meters deep. Do not work all year round, crystal clear, you can drink. Li Xiuqing was once known as "the fifth spring in the world" in the Tang Dynasty.

Tiger hill sword pool

Legend has it that the sword pool is not a natural thing, but an artificial axe. At the end of the Spring and Autumn Period, He Lv, the king of Wu, had many swords, and the body and treasures of He Lv, the king of Wu, were buried under the sword pool. At that time, after Qin Shihuang proclaimed himself emperor, in order to find the tomb of He Lv, the king of Wu, he dug up many buried treasures and swords, so he dispatched troops and set up camp at the foot of Tiger Hill not far from Xianyang. They asked around and dug in all directions, but for a long time they found nothing. When Chu and Han contended, the overlord of Chu heard about the legend of sword pool and became interested in it. He took people to the sword pool, angered the people and made great efforts to dig. As a result, just like what happened to Qin Shihuang, there was no sign of He Lv's sword, let alone He Lv's tomb. During the Three Kingdoms period, Sun Quan of Soochow also dreamed of finding the tomb of He Lv, the king of Wu. He personally led the soldiers and horses to the Tiger Hill Sword Pool for excavation, but found nothing. In order to find the legendary treasure buried under the sword pool, Wang Xun, the great Stuart of the Jin Dynasty, and his younger brother Sikong Wang Min built their own house in Tiger Hill, but they were still disappointed.

About Tiger Hill Sword Pond

Is the sword pool a natural axe or an artificial axe? Is the body of He Lv, the prince of Wu, really buried here? After a series of failed treasure hunts, people can't help being curious about the sword pool. In order to understand the real situation of Jianchi, Zhu, a famous scholar in Song Dynasty, made a field trip to Tiger Hill. After some on-the-spot investigation, he asserted that the ancient legend about sword pool was sheer nonsense, and there was nothing mysterious about sword pool at all. Qin Huang, Chu Ba and others failed in treasure hunting many times because they were deceived by listening to the legend. The sword pool is just a place where ancient people quenched their swords when casting them here. Wang Yucheng, a great poet in the Song Dynasty, made several rounds in the sword pool of Tiger Hill, and reached the same conclusion, claiming that the sword pool was completely made in heaven, a product of nature, and was not made by manpower at all. Qin Shihuang and others were looking for treasure there, and they were simply fooled by false and absurd legends.

Ancient people's investigation of the mysterious tiger hill sword pool

At that time and in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, many people were skeptical. Since the Song Dynasty, many people who disagreed with Zhu, Wang Yucheng left many valuable materials for future generations. One of the little-known ancients, in a book called Mountain Records, recorded such a thing: in A.D. 15 12, Suzhou Jianchi suddenly lacked water. At that time, people were surprised to see a closed stone door on the wall of the pool. Driven by the curiosity of some tourists, they dare to visit the swimming pool. On the stone wall of Jianchi, people saw the inscription left by Wang Hao, the prime minister of Ming Dynasty. Although this record is very simple, it undoubtedly shows people that the previous legend about the burial of He Lv, the prince of Wu, and a large number of treasures in the sword pool is not entirely out of thin air, but probably a fact.

Textual research on modern mysterious tiger hill sword pool

After the founding of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Suzhou Municipal Government invited many experts and scholars to visit and study Tiger Hill. On the basis of long-term in-depth and meticulous investigation and study, many experts and scholars overturned the conclusions of Zhu and Wang Yucheng in the Song Dynasty. They are confident that Tiger Hill Sword Pool is by no means a natural creation, but must be artificially built, just beautifully made, reaching the point of wonderful workmanship. They concluded that the sword pool might be built like this: Tiger Hill was originally the palace of He Lv, the king of Wu, and his son Fu Cha. He Lv carefully studied the laws of ancient royal tombs before his death and carefully surveyed the geographical conditions around Jianchi. He learned that the ancient royal tombs were generally built very neatly at first, followed by exquisiteness and concealment. However, Jianchi's terrain is dangerous, with mountains and rivers and flowing water all the year round, which conforms to the rules of ancient tomb building, so I decided to build my own tomb here. He Lv, the king of Wu, was one of the five tyrants in the late Spring and Autumn Period. In order to prevent people from stealing corpses and digging for treasures after his death, he carefully chose this place to build a mausoleum. This is also a natural thing. Later, He Lu died, and his son Fu Cha followed his will and dealt with it according to the rules of ancient tomb building. After careful construction, he buried He Lu's body under the sword pool and buried it with his favorite swords and treasures. Many scientists' inferences seem well-founded and reasonable. However, in order to finally understand the true face of Tiger Hill Sword Pool, it is necessary to dig on the spot to prove it.

During the period of 1955, under the advocacy of many scientists, Suzhou municipal government made up its mind to organize forces to dredge and excavate the sword pool, hoping to further verify the judgment of many scientists with the excavation results. The first step of dredging and digging sword pool is to use modern means to drain the water in the sword pool. A few days later, the water in the sword pool was finally drained. After removing the silt, people clearly saw the whole picture of the sword pool. The pool area is small, and the pool depth is about 5 meters. The bottom of the pool is flat, and the stone walls on both sides are straight from bottom to top. There are two stone tablets carved in stone on the east stone wall of Jianchi, on which are written the handwriting of Qin Wang, Tang Bohu and other famous people in Ming Dynasty. The content is consistent with the records of the ancients in the book Mountain Records. The scientists won the first battle. These findings prove that the sword pool was artificially carved with conclusive evidence, while the ancient Song Dynasty, Wang Yucheng and others asserted that the sword pool was naturally formed, which is groundless. Therefore, scientists in New China are more convinced of their original inference about sword pool.

The second step of dredging and excavation is to find out the underground mystery of Jianchi and find the tomb of He Lv, the king of Wu. At noon one day after the water in the sword pool was drained, several scientists were working overtime in the sword pool to clear the mud at the bottom of the pool. Suddenly, a man accidentally found a triangular cave in the rocks at the bottom of the pool. At this time, others put down their work and ran to see it. Someone put a long bamboo pole into the hole on the spot and found that exploring the hole was a breakthrough to find out the real situation under the embryo pool. So, a few days later, several people carefully enlarged the cave, spread it on the ground with wooden boards, held flashlights, stepped on the paved road and got into the cave one by one. The passage of the underground cave is dark and damp, about 10 meter long. When people walk by it, they can touch the ceiling by raising their hands. By the light of the flashlight, people passed through the narrow passage on the side and came to the end of the hole. The end of the hole is more spacious than the passage that just entered the hole. As soon as people entered the end of the spacious cave, they met three vertical rectangular stone slabs, each of which was nearly 1 m high and about 1 m wide. It is speculated that these three stone slabs may be the gates of He Lv Mausoleum, and behind the stone slabs may be the remains and treasures of He Lv, the king of Wu. Everyone is very happy about this discovery.

However, a few days later, just as some researchers were preparing to move three rectangular slabs, they suddenly received a notice to stop digging graves. The notice stated that if the tomb hidden under the sword pool is really to be opened, the Tiger Hill Pagoda built next to the sword pool may be destroyed and the whole Tiger Hill Scenic Area will be completely annihilated. The loss is too great. The researchers had to admit that the notice was reasonable and finally had to give up.

Recent new progress

On June 9, 2008, the dredging work of Jianchi, a famous scenic spot in Huqiu, Suzhou, came to an end, and the mysterious bottom of Jianchi in Huqiu was "rediscovered" again.

Tiger Hill Jianchi, with a history of more than 2,000 years, is one of the important scenic spots in Suzhou Tiger Hill Scenic Area. Recently, however, the staff of the scenic spot found that there was a brick "bulge" above the wall of a circular cave door on the west side of the "Tiger Hill Jianchi" scenic spot, which was confirmed by experts' research. This phenomenon is caused by the deformation and displacement of the "hole-in-hole" stone arch caused by perennial rain. In order to prevent the hidden danger of wall collapse, Suzhou Garden Department decided to tear down the wall to fill the sky, and at the same time, the water in the "Jianchi" on the north side of the scenic spot was drained for overall repair and restoration. After draining the water, the sword pool was once "cold in the pool" and "the empty mountain is firm and indestructible". For the first time in the past 20 years, a triangular "hole" appeared in the north of the pool, which is the entrance to the legendary tomb of He Lv, the king of Wu. According to historical records, the water in Jianchi is about 5 meters deep, and the gully is wide in the south and narrow in the north, which looks like a sword. According to legend, this is the entrance to He Lv's tomb.

Introduction to Tiger Hill:

Tiger Hill, known as "the first scene in Wuzhong", also known as Haiyong Mountain, Haiyong Peak and Khufu, is located in the northwest of Suzhou ancient city, 3.5 kilometers away from Changmen. ? Tiger Hill is 34.3 meters above sea level and covers an area of about 20 hectares. This mountain is rhyolite condensed from magma erupted in Mesozoic and Jurassic times 65.438+0.5 billion years ago. ? The human history of Huqiu can be traced back to 2500 years ago, as long as the ancient city of Suzhou. ? In ancient times, Tiger Hill was once an island in the bay that appeared and disappeared with the tide. After vicissitudes of life, it finally emerged from the sea and became a hill isolated on the flat ground, so people called it Haiyong Mountain. "When will the sea come? Thunderbolt breaks the earth's veins, splits thousands of miles and cuts the pale wall. " Zheng Sixiao, a poet in the Song Dynasty, vividly revealed the origin of Tiger Hill. Although Tiger Hill is far away from the sea now, people can still feel the traces and information of the sea.

Tiger Hill has a history of nearly 2500 years. In 496 BC, He Lv, the king of Wu, died of tetanus and was buried in this mountain. Three days after entering the cave, a white tiger crouched on the tomb, hence the name Tiger Hill. There are many places of interest in the park. Yunyan Temple Pagoda (also known as Tiger Hill) is a national cultural relic, and Duanliang Temple is a provincial cultural relic. The two beams in the middle of the beams are disconnected, and the cracks are visible. Su Dongpo, a great writer in the Song Dynasty, said more than a thousand years ago that it was a pity to go to Suzhou instead of Tiger Hill. For thousands of years, Huqiu Mountain has enjoyed the reputation of "the first scene in Wuzhong" with its beautiful scenery and long historical and cultural landscape.
