Volume 12 of Zheng Ben Cao records: "The fragrance of deodorization comes from southern Guizhou. Accompanied by all kinds of incense, burning smoke into the sky and calling cranes to hover on the ground. " Dalbergia odorifera is produced in Malay Peninsula, northern Borneo, Sumatra, Indochina Peninsula, Cambodia and western Guangdong, China. Its heartwood is purplish red, which is a good product for fragrance, medicine and dyeing.
Compendium of Materia Medica also records Dalbergia odorifera, saying that it has the effect of calming the nerves and clearing the brain. In the Song Dynasty, Dezhen incense was a common fragrance for ordinary people. As a medicine, it has the functions of treating wound, golden sore, stopping bleeding, relieving pain, reducing swelling and promoting granulation.

Mainly distributed in Hainan Province, China. Hainan is rich in Dalbergia odorifera. In the Ming Dynasty, Li Shizhen mentioned in Compendium of Materia Medica that "the smell of chicken bones is degraded" originated in Hainan. "Sumo" quoted "Zhou Nanji" and mentioned its native place: "Born in Hainan Mountain". Hainan Li people call it Ladiu (the best spice), also called Hualigong.
Miao people also recorded "Yazhou Zhi" and "Pear, purplish red, similar to Dalbergia odorifera" in Hainan ancient books. "Gezhi" records that "rosewood is produced in Hainan and Guangdong, and its purple color is similar to Dalbergia odorifera, but it also has fragrance". Hainan Miao people call it agarwood, green agarwood, green fragrant tree and Dalbergia odorifera.
