The Jingshan Shilong River-crossing Reservoir, with a storage capacity of 74.97 million cubic meters, was started in the winter of 1953, and was completed in 1954. It was the first medium-sized reservoir officially approved by the Hubei Provincial Water Resources Department, and was named "Shilong River-crossing Reservoir" and later changed to Shilong Reservoir. The reservoir intercepts Sima River, bringing together Chahe River, Tongquansi River and Lanjiahe River in one place, with a total storage capacity of 74.97 million cubic meters, and irrigates 1% of jingshan county, Tianmen City and Qujialing District. 86, mu of farmland. In the history of Sima River Basin, there were heavy rain disasters, light rain disasters, drought without rain, frequent floods and droughts, which were not treated for a long time, and there was the trouble of "crossing the river with dragons, creating Wang Yang".
The reservoir area of Shilong Reservoir has beautiful scenery, clear water quality reaching the national second-class drinking water standard, many caves in the mountains and many islands in the water, and more than 2 kinds of wild animals are inhabited, including pangolin, civet cats, arrow cats, elk, egrets and other more than 1 kinds of national and provincial key protected animals. It can be called the wild zoo in Jianghan Plain. Surrounded by green hills at an altitude of about 4 meters, the dam embankment is more than 5 meters long, more than 7 meters high, and the top of the dam is about 8 meters wide. The dam is located at the mouth of the gorge, and the two mountains face each other, which is the best terrain for damming rivers, blocking floods and storing water.
Walking on the dam, you can see the famous "Shilong" spectacle. On the west bank of the dam, I saw the summit view and Niuwo Mountain connected together, resembling a dragon, and called it "Shilong", which is the origin of Shilong. The dragon head of Shilong is facing the Moshi Mountain in the east of the dam, and it has the potential to leap across the river, which is spectacular and symbolizes the take-off of Shilong Town.
