Extended data
Changdao County is located between Jiaodong and Liaodong Peninsula, where the Yellow Sea and Bohai Sea meet, facing Yantai in the south, Dalian in the north, Beijing and Tianjin in the west, and South Korea and Japan across the Yellow Sea in the east.
Changdao County consists of 32 islands and 8700 square kilometers of sea area. These islands and 66 reefs line up in the Bohai Strait from north to south, 42.2 kilometers north of Laotieshan in Liaoning and 7 kilometers south of Penglai. The distance between the north and south islands is 56.4 kilometers, the width of the east and west islands is 30.8 kilometers, the land area is 56 square kilometers, and the coastline is 146 kilometers.
There is a geological structure phenomenon of "large-scale regional inversion strata" in Changdao County. The quartzite and sandstone shale of Penglai Group on the island are not normal stratigraphic sequences, indicating that large-scale closed folds have occurred in the strata, and the strata exposed to the surface should be the inversion wings of the folds.
Changdao County is a hilly area with a small plain along the coast. The highest island in China is Gaoshan Island, with an altitude of 202.8 meters. The lowest island is Dongzuishi Island, 7.2 meters above sea level.
