In the 20 years since Hainan was established as a province, four large-scale Taoist temples, including Sanya Nanshan Temple, Qionghai Boao Temple, Ding'an Wenbi Peak, and Chengmai Yongqing Temple, have been completed or under construction. As an atheist, I am not only worried about the social and ideological prospects of Hainan.
Article 36 of the "Constitution of the People's Republic of China" stipulates: Citizens of the People's Republic of China have freedom of religious belief. As a Chinese citizen, I have no right to interfere with the Hainan people’s freedom of religious belief. On the contrary, I have always been in awe of the traditional beliefs of the Hainan people. Junpo Festival, eating public period, flower changing festival. . . I have participated in it many times, drinking and drinking with local friends in Hainan and enjoying the family life. Of course, out of conscience, I must punish the feudal dross in it, but I have always recognized the excellent cultural core of Hainan traditional culture, which is "respect for heaven, respect for the earth, love for family, and respect for teachers." In a word, the local traditional Han culture in Hainan is actually the inheritance and creation of traditional Chinese Confucian culture. This culture, in a small way, is the cornerstone for the survival of Hainan people; in a big way, it is the link between Hainan, which is isolated overseas, and the bloodline of mainland China.
Since the establishment of Hainan as a province, dreamers or gold diggers from all over the country have come to Hainan (including the author of course). Hainan’s traditional culture has inevitably been influenced and impacted by the ideological and cultural influences of major cultural regions across the country. . Hainan, especially the two cities of Haikou and Sanya, has become increasingly diverse in its thinking as it has gradually become a city of immigrants. Most of it is the best, but there is also a lot of dross. According to the author's opinion, the biggest damage to the ideological and cultural fields of Hainan is the construction of numerous temples.
A careful analysis of the temples and Taoist temples built in the past 20 years since the founding of Hainan Province is certainly related to the good intentions of the believers to promote religion and educate people all over the world, but there are also the following reasons that have to be said: One is to make money by artificially constructing scenic spots to attract tourists. Just imagine that most of the tickets, incense money, and donations from the majority of believers (actually the majority are hesitant tourists) go into the pockets of developers. It would be strange if Western Heaven Tathagata and Nanhai Guanyin are not furious! The second is the private domain of some wealthy religious people. Some wealthy people who got rich by relying on the good policies of the Communist Party do not thank the Communist Party. Instead, they think it is a gift from God, a blessing from Buddha, and smoke rising from the graves of their ancestors. So they build a lot of construction projects and spend money like water. With the hard-earned money of shareholders and employees, I still pretend to wear robes and become a "lay Buddhist" who eats all the fireworks in the world. The third is purely a tourism project built by the local government or artificial Feng Shui. Some policymakers do not learn materialism, do not learn the "Eight Honors and Eight Disgraces", do not delve into the scientific outlook on development, but they believe in monsters and divination. Therefore, when developing tourism, gods must be created first, and construction projects must be seen. Feng Shui. In the end, they simply built temples, euphemistically claiming to benefit future generations. The author does not know that apart from destroying the natural ecology, building temples can also bring benefits to future generations.
