Brief introduction of bagua building
The original owner of the Bagua Building was Lin Heshou, the third room of the Lin family in Banqiao, Taiwan Province, and the Dutch dean of Gulangyu Salvation Hospital volunteered to design it free of charge. Dr. John Abraham Otte, 186 1 was born in the Netherlands, graduated from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and the University of Michigan in the United States, studied civil architecture and medicine, and became an American citizen. /kloc-0 came to Xiamen with the United States in 888, and was first sent to Pinghe River to build Yiguang. 1898, Xiaoxi Yiguang moved to Gulangyu and was named "Gulangyu Salvation Hospital for Men and Women". He personally presided over the operation. He is a doctor of medicine with superb medical skills and an accomplished architect. According to Lin Heshou's last wish, he designed this unique antique building-Bagua Building, which blended the eastern and western architectural cultures. At that time, Western designers advocated retro, and Dr. John Abraham Otte's design also borrowed and integrated many elements of classical architecture in ancient Greece, Rome, Islam and China. Its dome directly imitates the stone dome of the oldest Islamic mosque in the world-the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Palestine (later rebuilt as a golden dome), which can be seen in churches in Florence, Venice, Rome and many European countries. The surrounding 82 pillars were designed with reference to the pillars of Hella, the Greek goddess in the 5th century A.D., and the Vatican St. Peter's Square and the Pantheon in Rome, which were built in the 3rd century A.D., people immediately felt the sacredness of climbing the mountain under the colonnade of St. Peter's Square. Obviously, it was with this sacredness that Dr. John Abraham Otte was grafted to the Bagua Building. Although the Bagua Building is not as breathtaking as the stone colonnade in St. Peter's Square, its architectural charm can also be felt in the Bagua Building.
