The Book of Nine Families is a series of humorous martial arts dramas around the decision of Cui Jiangjia (Li Shengji), who is half man and half beast, and his beloved woman Tan Ruyu (Suzy Bae) to become real human beings.

Legend has it that in ancient times, all mountains and rivers were guarded by guardians. The patron saint of Zhiyishan is Jiu (Cui Zhenhe), because she witnessed a great event in the world, then fell in love with the heroine Yin Xihua (Li) and even gave up her eternal life.
