When Xiaozhuang was seriously ill, he specially warned his grandson about this matter. The original text is as follows: "I would like to remind you of the matters after my death. Emperor Taizong Wen has been in the palace for a long time and cannot be humble. , it is not convenient to bury them together at this time. If they set up a separate tomb in another area, it would be a waste of time for the people, and it is not the meaning of a joint burial. I love you and my son so much that I cannot bear to stay away. I must settle down in Zunhua. I am heartbroken."
It can be seen that there are three reasons why she did not choose Zhaoling: one is on the table, it is said that Huang Taiji has been buried for a long time, and she is so humble that she cannot disturb Huang Taiji; the second reason is to avoid laboring the people. , reduce everyone’s labor. A wise and virtuous empress dowager suddenly appeared on the page; the third point is the same as the legend in the dream, saying that she could not bear to leave her son and grandson.
Compared with marriage and dreams, although this statement is high-sounding, it is more credible and is neither gossip nor miraculous.
Xiaozhuang insisted on resting outside the Xiaoling Mausoleum, but this posed a problem for Kangxi. He had to first dismantle the five rooms on the east side of Cining Palace where his grandmother had lived, and transport all the building materials to Xiaoling Mausoleum. Outside the red wall, it was rebuilt according to the original location and served as the "temporary enshrinement hall" of the Queen Mother. Because his grandmother had mentioned to him many times that she liked this palace very much. This delay lasted for decades, and the filial Kangxi really didn't know how to arrange for his grandmother.
Later, Kangxi also passed away and Emperor Yongzheng ascended the throne. My father's mausoleum has been determined to be the Jingling Underground Palace, and he will be buried on the first day of September in the first year of Yongzheng (1723). However, where his grandma Xiaozhuang should be buried has not yet been determined!
On August 9th, Chen Yungong, the censor of Zuoqiandu of the Metropolitan Procuratorate, raised a very difficult question to Emperor Yongzheng: requesting a mausoleum for Empress Xiaozhuangwen. Yongzheng, who had just ascended the throne, was very difficult. Dad Unresolved problems were thrown to him. If he failed to solve them, he would be accused of being unfilial to his descendants.
To say that Yongzheng’s methods are really not to be praised, he came up with an idea and called in the ministers. He first praised Xiaozhuang’s great kindness, and then mentioned that Xiaozhuang hoped that he and The will of the children and grandchildren together finally quoted scriptures and explained that the matter of joint burial is actually nothing, it is just a formality. Since the death of Empress Xiaozhuangwen in the Qing Dynasty, the country's fortunes have been booming, which shows that the place where her coffin is located is a geomantic treasure, and she has repeatedly emphasized that she likes to be next to her son Fulin. We can't go against the wishes of our ancestors!
When the ministers gathered together, the emperor’s intention was very obvious. So, more than 20 days later, the officials reported: In the Qing Dynasty, the world is at peace, and the people live and work in peace and contentment. It is a good place to temporarily enshrine the temple. We request to build a mausoleum there! Yongzheng agreed with a stroke of his pen!
On November 21, the second year of Yongzheng (1724), the Qing government officially named the mausoleum of Queen Wen of Xiaozhuang as "Zhaoxiling", and Xiaozhuang finally rested in peace.
