Tengshan Village is located in the southwest of Zhang Shang Township, Xianju County, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province. Named after the surname, Teng is the most popular name in the village. According to local records, Teng Lingxuan, the ancestor of Teng family in Xianju, was from Fujian. His son Teng Zhao returned to Fujian in the late Tang Dynasty to escape the war, and then settled in Yueqing. His father Teng was the originator of Teng's family. Later, due to various reasons, the Teng family began to migrate to Xianju County, scattered all over the country, but its main settlement was Tengshan Village.
Tengshan Village has a long history of more than 1000 years, and its original village construction history can be traced back to the Yuan Dynasty. Because of its remote location, there was little damage in the past dynasties, so many ancient buildings, such as ancestral halls, houses and warehouses, were preserved in the village. Among them, the various patterns drawn on the doors and windows of these buildings are very exquisite and of high artistic value, which is the representative of architectural skills in southeastern Zhejiang. Tengzhuang village is surrounded by mountains, which preserves the complete traditional style. Because its architectural layout comes along the pond, it forms a unique mountain settlement with the surrounding environment.
It is said that Tengshan occupied two rivers, left Qinglong and right Huanglong. When there was a flood, there was a clear stream on the left and the stream on the right was yellow. Most houses in the village are built along two streams. It is said that this is a building of Feng Shui Bureau that can gather wealth. The houses in the village are mainly long straight houses, the building structure is wood structure, the enclosure structure is stone wall, the top is sloping roof, and the tiles are black in different shades.
In the Ming Dynasty, Tengshan belonged to Kaiyuan Township. In the Qing dynasty, it was the nineteenth capital. Tengshan didn't belong to Zhang Shang Township until 1985. ? Tengshan Village is an important post station on the "Xianyong Ancient Road" and is known as the "South Gate of Xianju". The former Xianyong Ancient Road was a passage from Xixiang and Nanxiang in Xianju to Yongjia and Yueqing in Wenzhou. Take Zheshan in Nanxiang, and it is about 80 miles to Yongjia. Xixiang takes Fangshan and Maanshan into Yongjia, and the traffic is very convenient.
One of the famous "salt ancient roads" in Xianju is from Xianyong ancient road to Huang Xian ancient road. From the Song Dynasty to the Republic of China, most salt transporters in Xixiang traveled from Xianyong Ancient Road to Yongjia and Huangyan to buy private salt. At that time, most of the wood, white charcoal, cloth and porcelain produced in Xianju were traded in Hongqiao, Wenzhou, and the salt produced in Wenzhou was transferred back to Xianju. If you want to resell Jinhua and other mainland areas through ancient roads, the easiest way is to walk through Tengshan Village to the front of Lizhai, the 18th capital, and the front of the 17th capital temple. As an important village of "Xianyong Ancient Road", Tengshan has always been a place where goods and business exchanges are very frequent.
Once Tengshan Village, because of its geographical area, also created a rich era, next to the Zhang Shang market. In the past, Zhang Shang market was a distribution center for materials in neighboring counties such as Xianju and Yongjia. It is said that when the market comes, the surrounding villagers will come here to trade materials and claim to be "one of the ten cities in Xianju". Unfortunately, with the development of the times, the Zhang Shang market has gradually declined and become the dust of history.
