How was Zhaoling built?

Zhaoling is the mausoleum of Emperor Taizong, the second generation founding monarch of the Qing Dynasty, and Bolzigit, the filial piety queen. Covering an area of10.6 million square meters, it is the largest and most magnificent one among the "Three Mausoleums outside Guanwai" in the early Qing Dynasty. Located about ten miles north of the ancient city of Shenyang (Shengjing), also known as the "Beiling", it is a tourist attraction integrating the royal tombs of the Qing Dynasty and modern gardens. Besides the Empress, Zhaoling also buried many concubines and beauties related to Chen Fei of Sui Palace, Guifei of Linzhi Palace and Shu Fei of Zhenqing Palace. It is the most representative mausoleum in the early Qing Dynasty and one of the most complete ancient imperial tombs in China.

There are many unsolved mysteries in the history of Shenyang. In the Qing dynasty 12 imperial tombs, why were the hills behind other 1 1 imperial tombs naturally formed, but Long Ye behind the treasure city of Zhaoling (Beiling) in Huang Taiji was artificially piled up? Li, a scholar of Qing history, said to me, "There are indeed many stories to tell here."

What's the point of building a mausoleum from underground?

Li said that according to the selection requirements of the imperial tomb, a good "land of feng shui" should at least have the conditions of "swamp in front and support in the back". The so-called "marsh" means a river, and "leaning" means a mountain. It stands to reason that the place of Beiling is an endless plain, with no mountains to "rely on" and poor conditions. Since Huang taiji chose this place as his "blessed land", ministers had to find ways to make up for it. As a result, a large number of banners were mobilized to build mountains, and Long Ye Mountain was piled up in the eighth year of Shunzhi. In the same year, it was named Long Ye Mountain. "Zishan noon direction", take due south and due north direction. According to legend, the knot "Jiu Feng" is the highest in the middle, with four prominent points on the left and right. East-west, its two ends bend to the south, shaped like a crescent moon, like "Wolong". In June of the eighth year of Shunzhi, the records of the Qing Dynasty were as follows: Yongling was the first mountain, Tokyo was Qing Ji, Fuling was Tianzhu Mountain, and Zhaoling was Long Ye. "Shengjing Tongzhi" said that Long Ye Mountain is "all-encompassing, and has the potential to control the Eight Wastes. Liao River goes back to the right, Hunhe River goes around the left, and the atmosphere is lush. Millennium sincerity is not accidental. " Also known as its mountain originates from the western foot of Changbai Mountain, it starts from Changbai Mountain and Yongling Mountain, from Qidian Mountain to Fuling Tianzhu Mountain, and from Tianzhu Mountain to Zhaoling Long Ye Mountain, and comes down in one continuous line until Shenyang Xidawan. This venous system is called "Longgang".

The orogenic soil is taken from Huangniwa in the north of Shenyang.

At that time, in order to avoid damaging the geomantic omen in the land of Beiling, it was necessary to use "exotic soil" to pile the soil in Long Ye Mountain, that is, to take the soil several miles or even ten miles away. At that time, there was no machinery, and all the excavation and earth transportation were carried by cart. Finally, 1 15-foot-long and 6-foot-high Long Ye Mountain was piled up, and the engineering difficulty can be imagined.

So, where did such a large amount of soil come from? Li said that the emperor was very particular about choosing soil when repairing the tomb, and he wanted to choose loess with pure and delicate color. First, I sent someone to find a big circle around Shenyang. Finally, it was found that there was a place called Huangniwa (now located in Huangtukan Village, Pingluo Street) on the north bank of Puhe River, with high terrain in the north and water in the south, good feng shui and pure loess. It is said that most of the eight years of building Zhaoling was spent on mound hill.

Also, who chose Beiling, a land of geomantic omen? This has always been a secret. It was a case-solving case in the fourth year of Kangxi, which revealed the clue of this matter. At that time, some people accused Qin of having "ten fallacies" in his New Calendar. The case was transmitted to Emperor Kangxi, who remembered that Tang Ruowang had worked for the imperial court for many years and was treated leniently and spared the death penalty. Du Ruyu and Yang Hongliang involved in the case should have been put to death, but "mindful of the geomantic omen of Yongling, Fuling and Zhaoling, they were exempted from the death penalty". It can be determined that Du Ruhe, a Qin official, chose Zhaoling in Shenyang.
