What is the growth habit of boat-fruited Sterculia?
Boat-fruited Sterculia is native to the tropics, and the average annual temperature in the introduction area is 2 1 ~ 24.9℃. In Hainan, the average monthly temperature suitable for growth is 24 ~ 28℃. When the extreme low temperature is 5℃, the tip of the blade dries up and the yellow leaves increase. Adult plants are drought tolerant. The monthly rainfall in winter and spring is below 22 mm, and the monthly average relative humidity is about 84%, which will not cause drought. However, for plants with damaged roots, a large number of leaves will fall off and water must be used to fight drought. The monthly rainfall suitable for growth is 100 ~ 300mm. Boat-fruited Sterculia is a light-loving plant. Whether it is a seedling or an adult, when the shade is too large, it will affect the bamboo shoots. Under the exposure, the buds grow fat and the leaves are wide and dark green. The soil requirement is not strict, and it grows well in sandy loam, yellow loam and latosol. Because the stems are thin and tall, the xylem is brittle, the root system is underdeveloped, and the wind resistance is extremely poor, planting in coastal areas with frequent typhoons may easily lead to broken stems or lodging of plants, so it is necessary to choose a shelter from the wind.
