Liaohe River is the southern river in the northeast of China. It was called Juli River before Han Dynasty, Daliao River in Han Dynasty and Liaohe River after Five Dynasties. It flows through Hebei, Inner Mongolia, Jilin and Liaoning provinces (autonomous regions), with a total length of 1.345 km, and finally flows into the Bohai Sea, with a drainage area of 2 1.9 million square kilometers. It is one of the seven rivers in China.

Due to the influence of climate, there are frequent floods in the Liaohe River Basin, with an average of one major flood in 7-8 years and one general flood in 2-3 years. Liaohe river basin is one of the water-deficient areas in China, especially in the middle and lower reaches.
Since 1993, Liaohe River has started the renovation project, and severely cracked down on substandard sewage units according to law, and achieved certain results. Liaohe River Basin was developed late, and some water conservancy projects were built after 1949. The larger water storage and power generation projects in the whole basin include Hongshan Reservoir and Erlongshan Reservoir.
