Suzhou is located in the east of China, the southeast of Jiangsu and the middle of the Yangtze River Delta. It is an important part of the Yangtze River urban agglomeration. It borders Shanghai in the east, Zhejiang in the south, Taihu Lake in the west and the Yangtze River in the north. It is located between east longitude11955' ~12120' and north latitude 30 47' ~. The city is low and flat, with plains accounting for 54.8% of the total area, about 4 meters above sea level, and hills accounting for 2.7% of the total area.
Suzhou has a subtropical monsoon maritime climate with four distinct seasons and abundant rainfall. It grows rice, wheat and rape, and produces cotton, sericulture and fruit. Its specialties include Biluochun tea, Yangtze river swordfish, Taihu whitebait and Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs.

The ancient city of Suzhou is criss-crossed with rivers and harbors and densely covered with lakes. The most famous lakes are Taihu Lake and Caohu Lake in the west corner. There are Dianshan Lake and Hucheng Lake in the east; There is Kuncheng Lake in the north; Among them are Yangcheng Lake, Jinji Lake and Dushu Lake.
The Yangtze River and the Beijing-Hangzhou Canal run through the northern part of the city. The water from Taihu Lake flows into the river northward, eastward and then into the river through Huangpu River. The water in the canal flows into Wang Ting from the west and flows out of Shengze from the south. The "three rivers" that once went out to sea are now discharged into the river from the east of Huangpu River, thus forming three major water systems in Suzhou.
Suzhou is also known as water capital, water city and water town because of its criss-crossing rivers. /kloc-The Travels of Marco Polo in the 3rd century praised Suzhou as Venice of the East. Suzhou ancient city was praised as "magic" by Montesquieu, a French enlightenment thinker.
