Boyi also has a specialty, that is, he is good at taming birds and beasts, which has also become the specialty of the yuanshi county family. One of Boyi's descendants is an baili, a favorite of Shang Zhouwang. Zhou Wuwang crusaded against Shang Zhouwang and killed his son Eli at the same time. There was a descendant in Hubei named Feizi, who was sealed in Qin by Zhou for helping Zhou raise horses. Qin was the earliest fief of Qin State, and concubines became later generations.
Although Qin Feizi has a fief, his title is lower, probably viscount. Although he had fiefs, the country he established was not a vassal state, but a vassal state, which could only be attached to other big vassal States and could not directly deal with the Zhou Emperor. However, he at least established a beginning for Qin, and the royal family of Qin began to expand under the leadership of Fei Zi.
Qin Chu was sealed in Qingshui County, Tianshui City, Gansu Province. Its territory is very small, not as big as Qingshui County now, and there are many Rong people around it, that is, ethnic minorities. Living environment is very bad. At that time, there was a Western Han River in Tianshui, which was the largest tributary of Jialing River and originated in Tianshui. At that time, Qin people and Rong people lived on the banks of the Western Han Dynasty.
Qin people lived in the plains in the upper reaches of the Western Han River, while Rong people lived in the valleys in the lower reaches of the Western Han River. The settlements of Qin people and Rong people are staggered, and the two sides are in a hostile state, and wars often occur. Moreover, there is more than one Rong people, and there are many Rong people from different tribes, which surpass the Qin people in number, strength and territory.
It was in this environment that Qin people struggled to survive. If you think about it, you will know that the enemy is at home, and the alarm of the Qin people always rings. Then men took up arms to fight, and women protected their children and children, resisting foreign aggression and beast attacks like primitive tribes, which made Qin people develop a brave and strong character.
Just look at the monarch of the Qin people. Qin Zhong, the great-grandson of Qin Feizi, was also the fourth monarch of Qin State and a doctor of Zhou Dynasty. Qin Zhong led an army to attack Xirong and died in battle. This is the first monarch to die in Qin, but not the last. Qin Zhuanggong, the eldest son of Qin Zhong, defeated the Rong people with the help of the Zhou Emperor and was granted a piece of land.
In order to avenge his grandfather Qin Zhong, Qin Zhuanggong's eldest son Shi Fu gave up the position of monarch and gave it to his younger brother Qin Xianggong. He led his people to continue fighting the Rong people. He was made a vassal because of his meritorious service in escorting Zhou. Zhou Pingwang sealed an empty fief to Qin Xianggong, where many Rong people lived. If Qin Xianggong wants this fief, he must constantly fight against the Rong people. At this time, Qin really began to become a vassal state, but it was used as a vassal state.
From the founding of Qin to Qin Xianggong, there were only five monarchs, and two monarchs died in the battle with the Rong people. By the time they arrived in Qin Wengong, Qin people had lived in Tianshui for more than 200 years. Due to the continuous bad environment and the eastward movement of the Zhou royal family, Qin people were led to live in Guanzhong area.
According to historical records, during the Spring and Autumn Period, the Rong people established 12 countries. At that time, there were only eight tolerant countries. Under the constant attack, they either surrendered or stayed away, or married, so Qin began to dominate Xirong. In fact, Qin Mugong's ultimate dream is not to dominate Xirong, but to move eastward into the Central Plains. However, the road of Qin's eastward advance was blocked by Jin, and there was no eastward advance.
In some historical books, Qin Mugong is also known as one of the five tyrants in the Spring and Autumn Period. He was the most successful monarch in the history of Qin except Qin Xiaogong. Although it did not complete the ideal of moving eastward, it gained hegemony in Xirong, and Qin began to become a vassal state with strong strength in the west, but it was still far from the strength of the vassal state in the Central Plains.
After Qin Mugong, he adopted the monarch of Qin in 16, and it was not until the Qin Xiaogong period that Qin Xiaogong was the origin of Qin's prosperity. He reused Shang Yang's political reform and stayed behind the scenes, giving him all the power to govern the country and giving him unlimited trust. Even if the prince broke the law, Qin Xiaogong did not hesitate to punish the prince and maintain political reform. This spirit of persisting in reform and self-improvement is not found in the kings of Qin in previous dynasties. Throughout the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period, he has changed.
Later, many people knew this story, which was called: "Fen VI was fierce, took the palace with a long-term strategy, swallowed the princes and died in two weeks, and achieved Liuhe." This is also Jia Yi's evaluation of Qin in On Qin. Until Ying Zheng, the king of Qin, unified the six countries, Qin spent 679 years, and after 36 kings of Qin, it was always in the hands of Qin Shihuang.
Obviously, it is Qin's enterprising spirit and persistent spirit that inspired the kings of Qin to keep forging ahead. There are few bad emperors in Qin history for a reason:
First, Qin's geographical location and harsh environment.
Qin's geographical position was regarded as a very good emperor by later generations, because it was isolated from other geographies during Hangu Pass, Wuguan Pass, Dasanguan Pass and Xiaoguan Pass, which made Guanzhong a place easy to defend but difficult to attack, and at the same time, it was a treasure trove of feng shui in the granary. However, Qin gained this geographical position and sacrificed countless generations of Qin people. It took hundreds of years to be seized.
The earliest fief of Qin was in Tianshui, Gansu. It was from a small piece of territory there that the Qin people gradually developed and grew up through constant fighting with the Rong people. How can they survive in such an environment where strong enemies look around? Only by being more ruthless than the enemy can we survive. Rongren is a brave nation, and Qin people can only survive if they are braver than Rongren, otherwise they would have disappeared in the long river of history.
In the constant war, Qin people have developed a bloody, strong, fearless and brave character. If they don't work hard, they will be annexed by the enemy at any time. People in the state of Qin are born soldiers. In order to survive in such an environment, they kept fighting. Compared with the vassal States located in the Central Plains, the struggle between Qin people and Rong people is much more cruel than that in the Central Plains.
Due to the harsh geographical environment, Qin people were born with a sense of crisis. If they want to continue to develop and go out, they must always be alert to the enemy, which makes the kings of Qin dare not enjoy themselves and can only keep fighting. Therefore, there are few faint kings in Qin. As long as their abilities are not too bad, successive kings are enterprising and persistent in expansion, which makes them finally successful.
Second, the state of Qin was not respected by the vassal states of the Central Plains.
Before Shang Yang's political reform, Qin couldn't get out of Hangu Pass at all, and was blocked by the six eastern countries. There was Jin in the Spring and Autumn Period and Wei in the early Warring States Period. These countries were stronger than Qin at first, and Qin was not respected by the central plains governors because it was located in the western border and dealt with Rong people all the year round. It is a shame for the central plains governors to regard the Qin people as Rong people.
Because Qin people are serious descendants of the Yellow Emperor, the Chinese nation was named Xirong, and then it continued to develop in the West. All Qin people think they are a Chinese nation, so they need to keep moving closer to China. This kind of being looked down upon can easily arouse the struggle of Qin people. Coupled with the eastward ideal passed down from generation to generation by the monarch of Qin State, Qin State made continuous efforts, and finally reused Shang Yang's political reform in the Qin Xiaogong period.
Third, Qin people advocate force and are passionate.
The Qin people were attacked on all sides. Fighting the enemy is nothing more than force. If you don't want to be killed by the enemy, you have to advocate force and fight with blood, including the later Shang Yang political reform, which also inspired the fighting spirit of the Qin people. The rank system was used to encourage ordinary soldiers to get promoted through military service, which broke the aristocratic politics of the Zhou Dynasty and greatly stimulated the fighting capacity of Qin people. Therefore, Qin Jun is called the teacher of tigers and wolves.
Don't use today's values to evaluate the chaos of cold weapons thousands of years ago. Living in that era is the first factor. There are not many ways to live, except advocating force and enthusiasm. As a result, the state of Qin continued to wage war, expand and move eastward, thus unifying seven or eight hundred chaotic Zhou Dynasties. This was the first real unification in the history of China, which influenced all subsequent dynasties.
