We moved into this yard in April. In early May, pomegranate flowers bloom all over the branches.
When I was a child, my grandmother’s house also had a pomegranate tree. The pomegranates were not big, but they had beautiful flowers. I rarely go to my grandma’s house, not because of the distance, but because my elders are too busy. Almost once a year. I only went there during the Chinese New Year.
At that time, people had to climb mountains and ridges to pay New Year greetings. Because grandma’s mother lives on the other side of the mountain, and grandma married here, every time New Year greetings, both children and adults have to climb a mountain to the other side of the mountain. I miss the excitement of that time.
Every time before setting off, the children will grab a handful of melons and fruits in the fruit plate. After filling their pockets with snacks, they still need to have a lot of food on their hands, so that they will not have to worry about going up the mountain. boring. In fact, when children go up the mountain - especially when they go up the mountain together, it is not so easy to get bored. You compete with me, who can run faster, who can reach the top of the mountain first. The food stuffed in the bag is often too late to be eaten. The boys run so fast that sometimes you finally catch up, only to find them peeling oranges on the mountain. Sitting on the stone leisurely and eating fruit. From time to time he would smile at you.
Children’s excitement is only as long as there are many people. So every time I return to my home after New Year greetings, I always feel extremely lonely. An only child's best friend is often the family dog. He listens the most and speaks the most. Many of my childhood memories are related to the animals at home.
I still remember raising a hedgehog. When I was not in junior high school. At that time, my cousin-in-law used it to make medicine. If he couldn't eat it anymore, he would give me one as a gift. I am very happy to keep it. As a result, one winter passed and the hedgehog never woke up again. I still have the image of it in my head. It's round and round, with a slightly pointed nose, and a fleshy body underneath. Observing a life that I was not familiar with at such a close distance made people curious and surprised. It turns out that life is so colorful. It actually looks so different from me.
When I was a child, I raised cockscombs, and my grandma would raise a backyard chicken. Many times, even if the chickens are full, they will peck the cockscombs on the side. I don’t know if he’s being naughty or just looking for trouble. The color of the cockscomb blooms very brightly, red and like a crown. I especially liked this color when I was a child. But the flowers have no fragrance. Later, my father got some crape myrtle trees from people’s houses in the village. It has a light fragrance when it blooms in summer. I smell like it. I still have Dabai's gardenia fragrance in my memory. Like its color, the fragrance is also very clean and pure. It's such a bright fragrance, strong but not offensive at all. Children always like flowers.
My family has never grown pomegranates. Every time I go to my grandma’s house I see the pomegranate tree.
I was surprised when I saw pomegranates blooming in the yard in May. Could it be that blooming so early has something to do with the feng shui of Mount Tai here? I never knew what month the pomegranate flowers bloom. After checking the information, I found out that May happens to be its flowering season.
It’s not because of good Feng Shui, it’s not because of miracles, it’s just that the time has come. Everything will fall into place.
