Where are the guest seats in the ancient courtyards? What is the function?

Guest seat: refers to the position and seat of the guest. Or the living room

In ancient China, the living room was called the first room. The courtyard of the house is located in the middle, facing south, so it is also called the first house, opposite to the wing.

The hall is the living space of the old Han folk houses, which is generally designed in the middle of the house, also known as the "living room". Because it is usually open, some areas are also called "bright rooms" (bedrooms are called "dark rooms").

The hall is generally a place where families live and receive visitors. Ordinary people also double as restaurants.

In the past, there was a permanent shrine and ancestral shrine in the middle of the hall. Nave's paintings are often hung on the wall, and Nave has couplets on both sides. Therefore, the hall is also a place for family sacrifices and major ceremonies. There are many houses in a big yard, which are called "Jin". In addition to the inner court, every hall you enter is connected back and forth, which is called "wearing a hall".

The hall is bigger and more magnificent than the wing, and it is generally designed as an odd number of rooms, with 3 or 5 rooms being the most common. Animal models (bricks or ceramics) symbolizing auspiciousness or fierceness should also be placed on the roof, such as unicorn and stone lion.

There can be no wing in the courtyard, but there must be a hall.

New residential buildings are very different from traditional halls, and are generally referred to as "living room" or "hall". There are also some antique buildings that still use the hall pattern.

There are no classical halls in modern new buildings, which are divided into living room, living room, dining room, porch and so on according to the living function.
