The Uber Cup was donated by Betty Uber. She was a famous British female badminton player in 1930s. From 1930 to 1949, she won the women's singles, women's doubles and mixed doubles championships in the British badminton championship for many times.

In order to promote the development of badminton, she officially donated a commemorative cup made by Maipiy and Weber to the International Badminton Federation at the Council meeting of 1956, and personally presided over the lottery ceremony of the first Uber Cup competition.
The Uber Cup is 18cm high, and the sphere is shaped like a globe, with a badminton-like model at the top. At the top of the model stood a female athlete with a racket. Around his base, the words "Mrs. Uber presented the International Women's Badminton Champion Challenge Cup held by the International Badminton Federation 1956" were engraved.
Although badminton originated in Britain, and the Tang and You Cups were initiated by the British, and the main leaders of the International Badminton Federation were mostly British, the British badminton team never won the Tang and You Cups once. On the contrary, the American girl won a "three consecutive championships" in the first three sessions. Uber Cup has been in Asia since the 4th session of 1966. Among them, Japan and Indonesia won 5 and 3 respectively. China women's team began to participate in the Uber Cup from 1984, and maintained the Champions Cup for 10 for a record. However, in 1994 and 1996, the Champions Cup was won by the Indonesian team headed by Wang Lianxiang, the "queen of feathers". 1998, the China women's team regained the Uber Cup after four years, and won the Uber Cup again in 2000 and 2002.
The 2004 "Tang You Cup" will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia, in May. As the last champion, the China women's team entered the final stage without qualifying.
