In track and field competitions, there are often many people participating in each event, and the competition can't be finished. What shall we do? Generally speaking, some people will be eliminated after the preliminaries, and then the finals will be held. Because the track is limited, sometimes short-distance events running in lanes need to add one second and a rematch in the preliminaries and finals, and finally eight (six) people will participate in the finals. According to the rules, athletes should be given a certain rest time in both competitions.
In field events, the preliminaries and finals are generally combined into one, and the order is arranged by drawing lots. First, the preliminaries and rounds (starting with the first person, in order, ending with the last person, one round) are each tried once, or three times; Then select the top eight (six) with good grades to participate in the finals. Before the final, the athletes will draw lots again to arrange the order, and each person will try to jump or throw three times. Finally, the ranking is determined according to the best results of six attempts or throws by the finalists in the preliminary and final competitions. If the number of participants is only eight (six) or less, everyone will have six chances to try to jump (throw). In the high jump and pole vault, each athlete has three chances to try to jump at each height in the order of arrangement (one round). At any height, three consecutive world failures will be eliminated. Whoever jumps highest in the end is the first.
If there are too many participants in any event in the field, a "passing game" can be held before the official competition. Before the preliminaries of throwing events begin, the rules allow everyone to practice throwing at most twice if possible.
If you get the top six in each project, you will generally score 3 points according to 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. If you take eight, you will generally get scores of 9, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 (sometimes the scores of relay events or record-breaking events will double). If you take a group ranking, it is generally to add up the scores of the top six (or eight) athletes participating in the competition and rank the group according to the total score. If the integral of two units is equal, the record-breaking one comes first. If they are still equal, the person who gets the first place ranks first.
General track and field competitions are conducted in the above way.
