In The Legend of Heroes in Sui and Tang Dynasties, Xue Gang kicked the prince and gave him a fright. Is it the same in history?

These are fictional plots in novel storytelling. There is no such person as Xue Gang in history. Naturally, there will be no such thing as him kicking the prince to death, and there will be no such thing as a shocking collapse. These plots are embellished by folk artists in order to increase the interest of the story. They can only be read as novels, not as history.

Xue Gang first appeared in The Legend of the Tang Dynasty. Part of this book tells the unjust case that only Xue Gang escaped after the Xue family was slain by Wu Zetian, and then Xue Gang rose up to prove that Xue family was clean, assisted Li Xian, and finally killed the treacherous court official, the ordinary Xue family.

There are roughly two versions of the story about Xue Gang. The common feature of these two versions is that they both have Xue Gang lanterns, which eventually leads to the destruction of the whole family. All stories about Xue Gang are based on this plot, but it is difficult to verify the specific time when this story appeared.

One of Xue's grandsons, named Xue Song, is a prototype. His father is Xue's fifth son named Xue Chuyu. Although the Xue family is a well-known family, Xue's son didn't get along well in the DPRK, and his eldest brother, Xue Ne, was excluded, which indirectly led to Xue Chuyu's dismissal from office, so Xue Chuyu had to go home to farm for the elderly. Xue Song refused to engage in production activities like his father. He grew up with great arms and was good at riding and shooting, so he got a small official by relying on the influence of his elders.

After the Anshi Rebellion, Xue Song was very dissatisfied with Li Tang and took refuge in the Anshi Rebellion. Because of Xue Song's bravery on the battlefield, An Lushan Group promoted him as the secretariat.

However, An Lushan Group had no confidence after all, and was soon defeated by Li Tang's army. Xue Song was afraid at this time, and he soon thought of how to make amends. At this point, just as the Tang Dynasty sent people to recover lost territory, Xue Song took the opportunity to surrender and was appointed as our time by the court. Xue Song is a kind person. In order to thank the Li family for not killing, they tried their best to benefit one side during their reign.
