Game form
There is no seed team in the FA Cup, and the match and home and away games are completely decided by lottery. If the game is tied, the two sides will exchange home and away games. If it is tied again, there will be overtime and penalty shootout.
Every August, all non-league clubs affiliated to the FA with basic facilities begin to play the preliminary knockout. In 2004/2005, 660 clubs participated in the FA Cup, breaking the record of 656 teams in192122. After the extra preliminaries, there are preliminaries, four preliminaries and six official matches, and finally the semi-finals and finals. All league clubs and non-league clubs that have participated in FA trophies or FA vases and are currently participating in events that are considered "acceptable" are allowed to participate in the FA Cup, and all participating clubs must have suitable and safe stadiums.
High-level non-league and league clubs are allowed to skip some rounds at the beginning of the FA Cup. Clubs such as the Championship and Premier League are allowed to directly participate in the third round of official competitions.
Traditionally, the final venue of the FA Cup is Wembley Stadium in London. Due to the reconstruction of Wembley Stadium, the final venue of the FA Cup was changed from 200 1 to Caldi Millennium Stadium. It is expected that the FA Cup final will be held again at Humble Stadium on May 6th, 2006. In 2005, two semi-finals were held in Millennium Stadium, and it is expected that the semi-finals in 2006 will also be held in Millennium Stadium, and the semi-finals after 2006 will be held in new wembley stadium. The final of the FA Cup is usually held at the end of May.
The team that wins the FA Cup can qualify for the first round of the UEFA Cup next year. If the team is qualified for the UEFA Cup because of its league ranking, the runner-up in the FA Cup will be qualified for the UEFA Cup instead of the champion. If the runner-up also qualified for the UEFA Cup, then the number of places in this UEFA Cup will be ranked according to the Premier League.
Winning team
So far, Arsenal and Manchester United have reached the finals 17 times, Manchester United 1 1 times won the FA Cup, Arsenal 10 times and Tottenham 8 degrees. Two teams won the championship for three consecutive years: Rangers 1( 1876-8) and Blackburn (1884-6). Leicester city was the most unfortunate team in the finals-they were all defeated after reaching the finals four times. Spurs F.C. (1901) is the only team in the FA Cup that played as a non-league club and finally won the championship.
