The method of putting forward quality problems with "5W 1H" and "3V"

I have been watching the happiness course at Harvard University recently.

According to the above picture, Professor Tal asked the question: "How many geometric figures are there in the picture?"

After 30 seconds, almost all the students gave their own answers. However, Professor Tal asked another question, "How many children are there in the car?" This time, few people raised their hands in the wooden church in Nuoda.

Everyone's attention is extremely limited, even Harvard students can't find the right answer when they don't know the right question.

Professor Tal said that in the past few decades, the research on the negative aspects of psychology has been 2 1 times that of the positive aspects. When people keep asking, "What happened to us?" At that time, anxiety, mental disorder and suicide rate increased, and mental illness became a global epidemic. When positive psychology begins to ask, "How can we live better?" After that, examples of happiness sprang up like mushrooms after rain.

Happiness and health do not exist, but we ask the wrong questions.

I haven't felt that I can't ask questions since I learned the English advanced interrogative word "5W 1H". When the teacher deliberately drags the whole class to ask questions, I always raise my hand to save the scene, which is nothing more than "what (what), who (when), where (where), why (why) and how (how).

But after reading Happy Classroom and this book, I deeply feel that I still have a lot to learn in raising "quality problems".

People are born with the instinct to solve problems, which is why people can't help trying to solve problems when facing them.

When I was a child, I especially liked guessing games and asking questions. When you see something you don't know, you will repeatedly ask adults, "What is this?" .

When I grew up, when I switched to quiz TV programs, I couldn't help but stop thinking with the contestants, even though I didn't intend to finish watching Lucky 52 and One Stop to the End.

Fire's novels, movies and TV plays all have some "reasoning" elements, and puzzles are the easiest factor to attract the audience.

Problems will also quietly affect others, whether the impact is good or bad.

There is a general manager of a venture capital enterprise. In order to encourage the company's innovative atmosphere, mobile phone employees are very creative about new projects. But since he took office, these ideas have not been realized.

When listening to their seminar, Su Jin Koichiro found that the general manager had been asking, "How much does this idea cost?" , "Can you make a profit?" "Is there any other company doing it?" .

After the meeting, Ichiro Su Jinguang asked the general manager, "If it is Google, how do you think the general manager who is in the early stage of starting a business will ask questions when attending today's meeting and listening to the creativity of employees?"

The general manager realizes that these problems can't help the company achieve the goal of "innovation", but they may put out the just-lit spark.

His question also became "How did you realize that idea?" "Any other ideas?" "What do you think of the prospect of this project in five years?" Questions that can help new ideas grow.

A few years later, this venture capital enterprise has developed a well-known network service, and new inspiration tirelessly moistens the company's creative meeting like a mountain spring.

Asking questions can change attitudes and then behaviors, whether it is good or bad.

Management psychology believes that changing people's behavior is an arduous task. To change people's behavior, we must first change people's understanding and attitude, and finally act.

Just like the general manager mentioned above, his question changed employees from "can this be achieved?" To "What can I do to achieve it?" Changes in consciousness.

In high school, I made a morning reading plan to improve my English. But after a month, I only improved my oral English-you know, I didn't take oral English in the college entrance examination. Then I asked myself, "What can I do to improve my English test paper?" I just started to summarize the phrases I saw in the text I read and recite the new words I met. Another month passed, and my English score improved from 97 to 108. Asking questions clarified my purpose of doing things, changed my attitude and showed me something I had never seen before.

To learn to ask high-quality questions, we must know what is good and what is not.

In the book Learning to Ask Questions and Practice, Ichiro Su Jinguang divided the questions into four categories according to whether he was willing to answer or not and whether he found anything.

1, simple question:

Questions that can make respondents easily answer, be willing to speak and get used to speaking.

The type of question depends on the interviewee, so even "How old are you?" If you ask a woman such a question in a country whose privacy is "age", she will feel offended, and it is not an easy question, but an inferior question.

This kind of questioning can improve the relationship between questioner and interviewee, and can also be used to collect the information of interviewee.

The most common simple question is to ask each other about their successful experience.

2. Inferior problem:

It is meaningless to ask personal questions and impose the questioner's values or subjective assumptions on others.

For example, during the Chinese New Year, "When do you find someone?" .

Deny others' doubts

For example, "Why do you live in that place?" (It has been judged that the place where you live is very poor) "Why are your grades so poor?" (The grade has been denied) "Haven't you done your homework yet?" (blame homework for being late)

Ask questions to show your Excellence.

There is a kind of person who shows off the same problem to others in class and in seminars. Miraculously, such problems are always exposed, and everyone around them knows, "That's not a problem, that's a show."

Step 3 ask heavy questions

The respondent's answer is not easy, but it will be enlightening.

In order to make the interviewee not feel offended, a lot of preparation is needed before asking questions to realize that "he asked this question to help me achieve my goal." .

For example, ask, "Is there anything at home recently?" For such a heavy problem, it is necessary to establish a strong trust relationship.

When asking heavy questions, you need to pay attention to the object and the occasion.

Step 4 ask questions

Inspiring questions that people can easily answer.

As long as the easy questions become enlightening and the heavy questions become easy to answer, it is the quality problem.

There is no good question that applies to everything.

How to raise quality problems

1, listen first and follow the trend.

To reach the attitude of asking high-quality questions is to "listen" to each other. We should not only listen attentively to each other's words, but also seriously face the "implication" and "the mood we really want to convey" and provide feedback to each other, so as to deepen our discovery.

Even if more planning is done in advance, new problems will appear in the process of listening, and the problems arising in the process of conversation are important.

2. Use 5W 1H and 3V.

5W 1H are "What (what), Who (when), Where (where), Why (why) and How (how)".

3V is "vision (ideal), value (values) and vocal music (common language)". They represent the goals I want to achieve, the things I like and the words I often use.

Write these nine elements on the card and combine them.

Let me give you an example of asking yourself and answering yourself.

For example, taking writing as an example, my vision (ideal) is "writer", value (value) is "passing on knowledge and energy for others", and vocal music (common language) is "happiness".

Then the question I should ask myself is.

What is a writer? How do writers do things? When can I become a writer? Why become a writer? Where should I contribute?

How can we transfer knowledge and strength to others? What is the transferred knowledge and energy? Who should I transfer my knowledge and energy to?

What do I think happiness is? How can I become a happy writer? ......

Wait a minute. ...

High-quality questions should be open-ended, which can help interviewees to answer naturally and make new discoveries.

The quality problem should be around the problem that I have "internalized", but I didn't notice it.

In my opinion, these open lottery combinations are from different angles, which can cover all aspects of the problem and help me ask the right questions.

It should be noted that vocal music is not something I can always experience. There are some words that I usually use but don't realize. These are all values that I value but don't realize.

2. Asking questions is not making suggestions

The questions are open-ended, but the suggestions are specific to specific situations and cannot be guaranteed to be applicable to all situations.

"You should do this." And "What would you do in this situation?" Maybe the answer is the same, but the effect is different. One can only change behavior, and the other can change attitude and consciousness.

3. Define the object with "you" and "I"

"How to do a good job" and "How do you think you do a good job" are different.

"What is passionate love" and "What do you think' love' is" will make questioners have different attitudes.

Similarly, when giving feedback, you should specify that "I think so" is different from objective facts. To avoid confusion.

1, what you really want: distinguish what you really want from what you should do.

2, work meaning: not what to do, how to do it, but why to do it.

3. Definition of words: What is a "budget"? Why set a "sales target"? Clarify the definitions of some words that seem to be understood by everyone and help them put them into action.

4. The opposite concept: When making a plan, ask, "What will you do if it can't be realized?" In career planning, ask "What is the job you must not do?" . Thinking about goals from another angle can strengthen the enthusiasm for achieving them.

5. Questioning "of course": Questioning the premise and habits can help me think deeply about the significance of its existence.

6. Ask the question of trying to change your position: Asking the question of trying to change your position is effective for discovering new information.

7. Ask the present and the future: "Easy questions" and "excellent questions" focus on the present and the future, "heavy questions" and "bad questions" focus on the past.

This book is not long, and there is a Ted talk at the end, How Great Leaders Motivate Action.

After reading the whole book, I was deeply touched by this Ted. Questioning has great power, which is not only a philosophical point of view, but also supported by biology. People are born perfect.

Ask the right questions, high-quality questions, maybe the answer will not come to mind immediately, or it may take a lifetime to find the right answer.

But on the way to find the answer, we will go in the right direction, so the happiness we feel is more real.

Using one's own nature to improve others and improve one's own life will certainly get twice the result with half the effort.
