Extended data
The Cup was established in 1989 and held every two years thereafter. Since the first Sudirman Cup was held in Indonesia in 1989, it has been held for thirteen times. The first eight Sudirman Cup competitions will be held at the same time and place as the World Championships (Sudirman Cup competition will be held first, then the World Championships).
Since the 9th Sudirman Cup in 2005, Sudirman Cup and World Championships have been held in different places and at different times in the same year. The first Sudirman Cup was held in Jakarta, the old country of Su Diman, on May 1989. China sent a team to participate in the competition, and finally only ranked third. However, Indonesia, the host country, won the first Sudirman Cup by beating South Korea 3-2 in the final because of its favorable weather, geographical location and people.
China never got rid of the fate of the third place in the first three matches of Sudirman Cup, and never made it to the final. In the fourth game of 1995, China tried its best to send young players to exercise the team, but it was these young players who won the Sudirman Cup for China. In the fifth, sixth and seventh sessions, China won the Sudirman Cup three times in a row, thus winning the championship four times in a row. In 2003, Eindhoven in the Netherlands lost to South Korea by 1:3 and lost the Sudirman Cup.
