Master Hongyi once lived in dozens of temples, such as Xuefeng Temple, Kaiyuan Temple, Chengtian Temple, Cao An Temple and Fushou Temple, and formed an indissoluble bond with Quanzhou, a famous historical and cultural city. Fusaiji in Yongchun is the temple where Master Hongyi stayed in Minnan 14 for the longest time. The master stayed in the temple for 572 days. These days, he insisted on not opening the door, not teaching students, and reciting scriptures seriously. During his stay in Yongchun, he compiled the Exegetical System Table, Four Laws, A Brief Explanation of Stealing Commandments, A Compendium of Nanshan's Family Law, Hua Yan Shu Zhi, Ten Commandments for Good, and other books.
Master Hongyi, formerly known as Li Shutong, is brilliant, integrating poetry, calligraphy and painting, seal cutting, music, drama and literature, and pioneering in many cultural and artistic fields. Li Shutong, a middle-aged hairdresser, has been a wizard for 24 years, during which he went to Minnan three times, on 1928, 1929 and 1932 respectively. It was these three trips to southern Fujian that made him stay in Xiquanzhou for 14 years.
