Where did rowing originate?

Britain, England

Rowing originated in England. 1775, Britain formulated the first competition rules and established a rowing club. 1829, Oxford University and Cambridge University held the first inter-school rowing competition on the Thames, which was regarded as the origin of modern rowing. Rowing is a water sport. One or more rowers sit on the boat with their backs to the direction of the boat, and use their muscle strength to paddle through the simple leverage of paddles and paddles to make the boat move forward.

competition range

The rowing competition must be played on calm water. From the starting point to the end point, it should be a direct channel with the same width. The waterway is 2000m long and13.5m wide. International rowing competitions usually have more than six lanes. In addition to the 2000-meter race distance, the race channel also has appropriate preparation waters. At least 100 meters of free water is left outside the finish line. There should be safety warning waters on both sides of the waterway that are equivalent to the width of the waterway.

Waterways are separated by buoys connected in series. Buoy spacing is10m or12.5m.. The surface of the buoy should be soft and the diameter should not exceed15cm. The colors of buoys in the whole channel are regularly distributed. The buoy is red from the starting point to100m, orange or white from100m to1750m, and red from1750m to the ending point. There should be obvious distance signs every 250 meters on both sides of the whole track.

Project classification

The World Rowing Championships established by the International Rowing Federation has 23 events, which are divided into 4 levels. That is, men's open lightweight and women's open lightweight. Each level is divided into single paddle and double paddle according to the form of movement; Rowing is divided into single, double, four and eight people according to the number of participants; Some events are divided into helmsman and no helmsman. For simplicity, the name of each event is represented by a combination of letters, numbers and symbols: "M" is a man, "W" is a woman, "L" is a lightweight, the number is the number of paddlers, "×" is a double paddle, "+"is a single paddle with a helmsman, and "-"is a single paddle without a helmsman. Therefore, rowing can be divided into eight rowing events according to the number, weight, rowing style and whether there is a helmsman.

Weight requirement

Men's lightweight single sculls athletes should not weigh more than 72.5 kilograms; The average weight of rowers in a single event or above shall not exceed 70 kg, and the maximum weight of each rower shall not exceed 72.5 kg. The weight of women's lightweight single sculls athletes shall not exceed 59 kg, the average weight of single and above events shall not exceed 57 kg, the maximum weight of single rowers shall not exceed 59 kg, and the lightest weight of helmsman shall be 55 kg for men and 50 kg for women. When the weight is insufficient, the corresponding weight should be increased and placed in the nearest place to the helmsman, and the weight should not exceed 10kg. Lightweight athletes and helmsman should weigh themselves within 1-2 hours before the first race every day.

Departure and sprint

When all the participating ships are in position on the departure route of the race, the starter will issue the password "two minutes to prepare". At this time, all the contestants will wait for the instructions from the starter. When the starter confirms that all the contestants and staff are in place, the rowing will be recorded again channel by channel for final confirmation. If the referee still raises the white flag horizontally or turns on the white light, the starter can issue a "ready" password. If the white flag of the starting referee is lowered or the white light goes out, the game will not start. Shortly after the preliminaries password was issued, the starter pressed a button, the buzzer sounded, and the protective baffles at the front ends of the rowing boats automatically sank into the water, and the race officially began. If someone is found to be robbing a ship; The starter will use the bell to recall the rowing boat and start the race again. Rowing boats that have been fouled twice will be disqualified from continuing the race. When the bow of each rowing boat crosses the finish line, the finish referee must press the timer and sound the finish whistle to judge the ranking in the order of the finish line. If there is any dispute, it will be judged by the terminal video.
