Historical legend of Longhua Twin Towers

Longhua Twin Towers, located in front of Longhua Temple (also known as manjuji) in Dengta Village, Longhua Town, was listed as a provincial cultural protection unit in 200 1 year, and is now declared as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau. The completion of the Twin Towers was guided by the dreams of nine immortals in Guo Yong.

According to legend, during the reign of Huizong Daguan in the Northern Song Dynasty, a famous dutiful son Guo Yong was born in Longhua Township of Xianyou. This Guo Yong was originally a well-read and versatile scholar. Just because my widowed mother raised him in her early years, she is old and sick now. He would rather keep her mother at home than take an exam. In the hot summer, Guo Yong's mother suddenly became seriously ill and bedridden. Guo Yong has invited many famous doctors in the city to visit his mother and take medicine at home, but nothing has improved. Guo Yong was very worried. He thought of praying for a dream in Jiuli Lake, and asked the Nine Immortals to find a panacea, praying for the Nine Immortals to help his mother turn the corner. So, after seven days of burning incense, bathing and fasting at home, he went to Jiuli Lake very devoutly to pray for his dreams. He Laosi, who dreamed in the middle of the Nine Immortals at night, whispered to him and told him a panacea that should not be told to outsiders. However, taking this medicine, we must use the fresh mackerel by the sea as a prescription guide to treat the disease. However, Guo Yong, a Confucian scholar who is proficient in astronomy and geography, said that this does not mean wishful thinking. Who doesn't know where to find the shadow of mackerel in this hot summer? He was puzzled and asked He Laosi. He Laosi smiled mysteriously and said, "Sincerity is the spirit. There will be a road in the end, and you will naturally understand. " Say that finish, it disappeared into smoke. After waking up, Guo Yong asked the doctor the next morning. The Taoist priest explained his dream and said, "The dream of the Nine Immortals has never worked, so you should strengthen your confidence and carry it out to the letter." Guo Yong immediately said that she would do it. If her mother is really well, she will definitely thank Nine Immortals!

When he came back to the door, he only heard his unconscious mother mumbling in her sleep, saying, "son, what medicine is this so bitter?" Because mom has just finished drinking, she is dry and bitter. Can you go to the street and buy a mackerel to change her appetite? " When Guo Yong heard this, he was really surprised. He thinks the dream of nine immortals is too timely and amazing. Fortunately, I had a dream of nine immortals first. Otherwise, it is a misunderstanding to talk in your sleep for patients and easily lose the opportunity to raise cats.

So, Guo Yong was overjoyed. He quickly prepared medicine according to the dream of nine immortals and told his family to take good care of his mother. The next day, he arrived at Fengting Beach early in time, where there were many fresh fish. However, Guo Yong waited there for three days and nights, but still failed to buy mackerel. I went to the seaside, facing the sea, and exclaimed, "Dragon King, you have so many fish and shrimp treasures. Don't you want to sell one of them to my mother as a medicine guide for the dream of the Nine Immortals?"

As the saying goes, "sincerity makes the stone break". First, He Laosi has arranged for Guo Yong to intercede for the Dragon King, but he wants to dispatch mackerel in the open sea to test Guo Yong's faith and filial piety again. Secondly, Guo Yong's filial piety, as a dutiful son, really touched the Dragon King. In this way, there are still two days of trial. When the Dragon King heard Guo Yong's crying and pleading, he couldn't wait to order the dragon girl to become a fisherman and shouted in the streets of Cangxi: "Sell mackerel!" Immediately surrounded by a lot of people, scrambling to buy. Guo Yong quickly left the crowd and said, "Wait a minute, guys. My mother is ill, and the old man wants to eat shark fish, so let her sell it to me. " The fisherman also said, "Saving a life is better than building a seven-level pagoda. You should pay attention to his filial piety and sell it to him. " Guo Yong bought shark fish, rushed home overnight, and made it as medicine for his mother. Sure enough, the medicine cured the disease and the whole family celebrated with joy. To this end, Guo Yong thought that now the mother's condition has been alleviated and her body has recovered. What I have to consider now is how to thank the Nine Immortals for their great kindness and honor my promise. At the same time, it is best to take this opportunity to pray again and prolong the mother's life. It was here that I happened to meet the abbot of Longhua Temple. Guo Yong asked the abbot what he was thinking just now. The abbot listened to his story and thought for him. He was inspired by the fisherman's saying that "saving a life is better than building a seven-level pagoda". He said to Guo Yong, "It is good to build a pagoda. If you have the ability to build a seven-level pagoda to thank you, wouldn't it be nice to thank the nine immortals and continue praying for your mother's longevity? " Hearing this, Guo Yong made a quick salute and rushed to Jiuli Lake in time to make a wish. Once again, he prayed for a dream and drew lots to ask the fortune teller if he could promise. Sure enough, He Laosi came out again in this dream. He not only appreciated the abbot's suggestion to build a seven-level pagoda as a thank you, but also said that he would try his best to protect his mother's health and longevity to the ancient times, and generously said that building a seven-level pagoda in Longhua Temple not only added a landscape to Buddhism, but also designated Long Mai as a scenic spot for the benefit of future generations.

So, according to He Laosi's dream, Guo Yong discussed with the abbot of Longhua Temple and built a pagoda, which is also one of the earliest ancient temples in the famous Xianyou. With the strong support of Longhua Temple, the seven-story East Tower donated by Guo Yong was successfully built on his mother's seventieth birthday. At the completion ceremony, Guo Yong prayed to the Buddha this time: "Mother will live longer and live to her eightieth birthday. Disciples are willing to donate money to build towers. " Sure enough, during the reign of Song Huizong Xuanhe, when his mother was eighty years old, the West Building was also built. Because the two towers were built ten years apart, but the architectural style is exactly the same, and each tower has a height of 130 feet. Therefore, the Records of Longhua Temple contains: "During the Daguan period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1107-110), Guo Yong, a native of this city, donated to build the East Tower to celebrate his mother's seventieth birthday; Pray for the mother to build the West Tower on the 80th anniversary, collectively known as the East West Tower of Longhua.
