According to the rules, wooden ball is a team event in which two teams participate. Each team has five players, each holding a batting board, and uses techniques such as passing, receiving, dribbling and shooting to avoid the opponent's defense, hitting the ball into the opponent's goal to score, and using defensive techniques such as steals the ball to prevent the opponent from scoring. The whole game is 40 minutes, with 20 minutes in the first half and 20 minutes in the middle of the first half 10 minutes.
The wooden ball competition venue is flat, barrier-free rectangular soil or artificial grassland, 40 meters long and 25 meters wide. The wooden ball is a long cylinder with a length of 9 cm. The hitting board is made of bamboo, wood or nonmetallic synthetic materials, with a total length of 70 cm, and consists of a board handle and a board head. The distance between the inner edges of the two goalposts is 1.80m, the lower edge of the cross beam is 0.80m from the ground, the door frame is cylindrical, a net is installed behind the goal, and the goal and the net are white.
According to the regulations of the 8th National Traditional Minority Sports Games, the wooden ball competition is divided into two stages. The first stage adopts group round robin. In the second stage, the top eight teams in each group will decide 1 to the eighth place by drawing lots, adopting elimination system and play-offs. There are less than 8 teams participating in the competition, and round robin is adopted, without stages or groups. In addition, in order to prevent the hitting board from cracking and hurting people, increase the buffering force and strengthen the safety protection for athletes, the Preparatory Committee of the 8th National Traditional Games improved the hitting board and "wooden ball" on the basis of previous equipment, making the wooden ball movement safer, more scientific and more standardized.
Because of the fierce competition and strong antagonism, during the competition, athletes run quickly with the batting board, pass the ball with coordination, and the hit ball flies out quickly, scoring instantly, which can fully show the superb skills of individuals and the tacit understanding of collective cooperation, which is very ornamental and interesting and deeply loved by people.
