The state pays allowances and wages to citizens who hold public offices and participate in political activities.
Influence: Athens initiated world democracy, left a valuable political legacy for later generations, and created most of the glory of Greek civilization. However, the principle of equality and justice embodied in democratic politics is only applicable to adult male citizens in Athens, and many women and foreigners cannot enjoy this democracy.
