New competition system
Reduce the unpopularity and increase the enjoyment of the game.
According to official website of the International Badminton Federation, there will be 64 men's and women's singles events in the London Olympic Games, divided into 16 groups. The top 16 players in the world are grouped as seed players; Two players of the same association will belong to the upper and lower half to avoid fighting before the semi-final; If three players from the same association rank in the top four in the world, they can all be shortlisted, and the first two players will not meet in advance. The group competition adopts the single round robin system, and the first place in each group is qualified.
The competition system of doubles is similar to that of singles, except that the seats of each event are 16 pairs of players, which are divided into four groups according to the world ranking, and the top two combinations in each group enter the quarter-finals elimination. Since each association can only have two pairs of finalists at most, players from the same association will be included in the upper half and the lower half respectively to ensure that they will not meet before the semi-finals.
In order to keep the seats in the Olympic Games, it is the starting point for the International Badminton Federation to actively seek reform in recent years, so as not to let the strong players go out as soon as possible, thus increasing the intensity and appreciation of the competition. Badminton star players will have more opportunities to play in the London Olympic Games, which will undoubtedly increase the attendance rate and media attention.
