History of Taoism in Hemingshan Taoist Temple
Heming is located in yue lai zhen, Heming Township, Dayi County, Sichuan Province. There is a Taoist temple at the foot of the mountain, named after the mountain. When the Eastern Han Dynasty obeyed the Emperor, Zhang Daoling, the ancestor, founded the way of "being a righteous school of Mencius" here, so he was honored as the birthplace of Taoism. According to historical records, the earliest Taoist temple on the mountain was the Shangqing Palace, which was built by the founder Zhang Daoling. After several generations of expansion, by the time of the Republic of China, there were hundreds of temples in Shangqing, Shi Tian, Ziyang, Yingxian and Wenchang. During the Cultural Revolution, the Taoist temple in Hemingshan was severely damaged, and 1987 was reopened as a place for religious activities. At present, Yingxian Pavilion, Yanxiang Pavilion, Doulao Hall, Sansheng Palace and Shitian Hall have been renovated.
