The elimination system is to quit the competition after losing once in the competition, and the winner will continue the competition until the third place is finally decided. When the number of participating teams is large and the competition period is short, the elimination system is generally adopted.

Elimination system can be divided into single elimination system and double elimination system.

1. Single elimination

(1) Number of rounds and games in single knockout.

① Number of rounds: If the number of teams is a power of 2, then the number of rounds is exactly an exponent of the power based on 2. For example, eight teams participate in three rounds of competition, because 8 = 23; 16 team participated in four rounds of the competition, because 16=24.

If the number of teams is not a power of 2, that is to say, the number of teams is between the powers of 2, then the number of rounds is a larger exponent of the power of 2. For example, if 14 team participates in the competition, according to the number of rounds of 16 team, it is four rounds.

② Number of matches: The total number of matches in a single knockout match is equal to the number of teams minus one. For example, 8 teams participated in the competition, with 7 games.

(2) The arrangement of the single knockout ranking table

(1) When the number of teams is a power of 2, all teams will play on the first day of the competition, but there is no bye team. As long as according to the number of participating teams, every two teams will arrange a group to be eliminated step by step. For example, eight teams participate in the competition, that is, four rounds and seven games. After the draw, fill in the team name in the order list.

(2) When the number of teams is not a power of 2, according to the number of teams, take the largest exponent of the nearest number and the power of 2 as the number digits, and the number digits minus the number of teams is the bye number. For example, if 13 teams participate in the competition, they should choose the position of 16, and 3 teams will be bye, which can be 2, 10. In the first round, the team competing with 2, 10, 15 was the bye team. Bypass teams can only appear in the first round, but not in other rounds. If there is a bye team, you should let the strong team bye first.

In order to prevent the two teams with better skills from meeting first and being eliminated, the method of forming a seed team can be adopted. When arranging the competition order, it is more reasonable to arrange the "seed teams" with strong strength and good technology in different areas so that they can meet at last. The main basis for determining the seed team is its technical level and recent major competition results. Determine the number of "seed" teams, mainly based on the number of teams, generally

It is appropriate for four teams to have a "seed". A single eliminated "seed" should be evenly distributed in each district. For example, the 16 team entered the competition and set up four "seed" teams. The two strongest teams, the "seed" team, are ranked at both ends 1 and 16, and the "seed" teams No.3 and No.4 are ranked at No.8 and No.9 in the middle (Table 6).

In order to ensure the reasonable distribution of seed teams to all districts, the simplest way is to check the seed team post table (as shown in Table 7).

The usage method of the seed queue table is: according to the number of seeds to be set, select the number less than or equal to the number of competition numbers (that is, the number of competition teams) line by line, which is the seed queue number.

As shown in the table, there are 32 teams and 8 seed teams. By checking the position table of the seed team, eight number positions of 1, 32, 17, 16, 9, 24, 25 and 8 * * were selected.

Single elimination table format order

After drawing lots to arrange the number positions, all the game sequence tables can be compiled. Generally, the following formats can be adopted (as shown in Table 8):

The ranking evaluation of single elimination system means that all teams that have not failed in the competition are champions; The team that failed in the final was the Asian Army.

If it is stipulated in the competition regulations that all teams must determine their own rankings, a play-off will be held. The usual method is: the two teams that failed in the rematch make-up, the winner is the third, the loser is the fourth, and the four teams that failed in the rematch make-up compete for 5-8 places.
