On the Overall Rules of Olympic Volleyball

Volleyball Competition of Beijing Olympic Games

Date: June 24th, 2008

There were 76 volleyball matches in Beijing Olympic Games in 2008, including 38 for men and 38 for women. The competition is divided into four stages: preliminaries, quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals.

1, competition mode

(1) preparatory work

The participating teams will be divided into two groups, A and B, with 6 teams in each group, and each team will take turns to compete with the other 5 teams in the same group.

(2) Quarter finals

The teams (***8 teams) that won the top 4 in each group in the preliminary round will enter the quarter-finals, and the competition method is as follows:

A 1 pair B4

A2/A3 vs B2/B3 (determined by FIVB drawing lots. )

A4 and B 1

(3) Semifinals

The four teams that win the quarter-finals will enter the semi-finals in the following ways:

A 1/B4 Winner pair (A2/A3 vs B2/B3, decided by lot).

(A2/A3 vs B2/B3, decided by drawing lots) Winner vs A4/B 1 Winner.

(4) finals

The two teams that win in the semi-final will compete for the gold medal.

The two teams that lost in the semi-final will compete for the bronze medal.

Step 2 draw lots

Draw lots according to FIVB volleyball rules to decide the preliminaries of each team.

After the preliminaries, FIVB will draw lots to decide the match between A2/A3 and B2/B3, and decide the order of the quarterfinals.
