Kongtong Mountain is located in the western suburb of Kongtong District, Pingliang City, Gansu Province 15km. It starts from Erdaogou, Huapaoling and Liushugou in Jinghe area of Taitong Mountain in the east, reaches Jingyuan County in Ningxia in the west, reaches Dayinshan and Shiwangou in the south, and reaches Daxiangshan in the north, with a total area of 83.6 square kilometers, and the main peak is 2 123.3 meters above sea level.

Kongtong Mountain is the southwest wing of Taitongshan compound anticline. Under the influence of strong tectonic movement, a series of fractures and folds occurred in the strata in the area, especially in Cretaceous, and the derived joints were very developed. The main five groups of joints form an' X' joint combination, which cuts the rock mass into different blocks and forms a steep cliff.
It laid the foundation for the formation of geological relics. The lithology of strata exposed in different periods varies greatly, from soft to hard. Conglomerates are mostly limestone with uneven cementation, which makes the weathering and corrosion resistance of rocks vary greatly and plays an important role in shaping geological relics.
