Chapter one: The short story of Confucius and his students.
Wisdom and harmony
Confucius had a disciple named Xia Zi. One day, he asked Confucius about the cultivation of some students.
He asked, "Teacher, what kind of person is Yan Hui?"
Confucius hesitated for a moment and replied, "Yan Hui's kindness is better than mine."
"What about Zigong?" Xia Zi then asked.
"He! His eloquence is better than mine. " Confucius said with a smile.
"Where is Lutz's classmate Lutz?" Summer want to then asked.
Confucius smiled happily and said, "In terms of brave spirit, we are not as good as him."
"What about that child? Does Zhang Zi also have a teacher? " Xia Zi is very skeptical.
Confucius paused and said, "Zhang Zi, a classmate, is more serious and rigorous than me as a teacher."
Hearing this, Xia Zi couldn't help standing up. He bowed and asked, "Teacher, I don't understand this." Since those four students rank more than the teachers, why should they learn from you? "
When Confucius saw Xia Zi like this, he raised his hand and pressed it down. He kindly said to Xia Zi, "Xia Zi! Don't worry, sit down and listen to me slowly. Although Yan Hui is very kind, sometimes he is too kind, which makes his heart unbearable, makes him blindly accommodate others, affects his correct judgment of the situation, and thus harms others and himself. So, although he can be kind, he can't stand it. (Note: Buddhists sometimes say that compassion breeds disaster, that's what it means) "
Confucius then said to Xia Zi, "As for Zi Gong, his eloquence is really good. It can be said that eloquence is not an obstacle. He is proficient in the wonderful use of language, but he doesn't know the limitations of language and the power of silence. Therefore, he can argue. "
Confucius said, "Lutz is a rare warrior. But sometimes you don't know how to be modest, don't know how to give in, be timid, defend, and start work at will. It is inevitable that you will lose your temper. Therefore, he can be brave and fearless. "
"And Zhang Zi," Confucius said here, sank, and then said, "He is so solemn and rigorous that he can't stand things. You can't be pleasant, you can't accommodate dirty people, people are afraid of it and stay away from it. Therefore, he can be strong, but not harmonious. "
"So," Confucius finally concluded, "I add up the strengths of these four students and don't want to change my cultivation. That's why they should follow me wholeheartedly. "
Chapter two: The short story of Confucius and students.
Know the degree of goodness.
At one time, the law of Lu stipulated that if someone redeemed a woman who had been a slave in other vassal countries from Lu, that person could go to the government to receive remuneration.
On one occasion, Zigong redeemed a Lu native in a vassal state, but politely declined the reward from the imperial court. When Confucius heard this, he said to Zi Gong:
"Zi Gong! What you did was wrong. Saints can change customs, make people follow suit and influence future generations, not just for their own interests. At present, there are few rich people in Shandong and many poor people. If the redeemer goes back to collect the bounty, it is considered dishonest. Without the incentive of the bounty, fewer people will be willing to redeem. Therefore, your behavior of only considering your own moral cultivation will cause Lu people to be unwilling to go to other vassal countries to redeem people in the future. "
After listening to the teachings of Confucius, Lutz was deeply inspired. Later, when he saved a drowning man, others wanted to send him a cow to thank him, and Luz respectfully accepted it. After Confucius knew it, he said happily, "In the future, many Lu people will be willing to save people from danger."
Soon, Lutz was appointed Governor of Pucheng. In order to prevent floods, the government mobilized migrant workers to build ditches everywhere in spring. Lutz saw that everyone worked hard but didn't bring enough food, so he used part of his salary to help everyone, a meal and a bowl of soup. When Confucius heard about this, he quickly sent Zigong to carry grain and destroy cookers. Lutz was very angry when he found out. He ran to Confucius angrily and shouted:
"The teacher will be jealous of my righteousness? What Lutz learned from the teacher was only benevolence and righteousness. Righteousness, and this world * * * takes up all, * * * takes advantage of all. Now, Lutz is doing a righteous thing and sharing his leftover food with everyone. Why did the teacher forbid it? I can't figure it out! "
After hearing the story of Lutz, Confucius shook his head and said, "Lutz! You are still so rude and simple. If you think that migrant workers don't have enough to eat, why don't you tell Lu Jun? Let Lu Jun open the granary to help them? You use your private salary to do justice. This kind of behavior is obstructing lujun's kindness and showing your own morality. It may not be too late to stop now, otherwise, the day of punishing you will come soon. " Lutz was speechless when he heard this. Sure enough, the Prime Minister soon sent someone to see Confucius and said, "Mr. Wang sent his disciples to help migrant workers. Is it necessary to compete with Lu Jun for the people?"
Seeing this situation, Confucius knew that it was useless to explain. So he left Lu with his disciples.
Chapter three: The story of Confucius and students.
Confucius misunderstood Yan Hui.
Confucius was once trapped in Chenhe area and didn't eat for seven days.
One day at noon, his eldest son Yan Hui invited some rice to cook porridge. When the rice was almost cooked, Confucius saw Yan Hui grabbing the rice in the pot with his hands.
Confucius deliberately pretended not to see it. Yan Hui came in to invite Confucius to dinner. Confucius stood up and said, Meng Lizu told me just now that you should give food to your elders first. How can I eat by myself first?
Hearing this, Yan Hui immediately explained that Master had misunderstood. Just now, I picked up the dirty rice grains and ate them because I saw the coal ash fall into the pot.
Confucius sighed: people can trust their own eyes, but their eyes are sometimes unreliable. They can trust their own hearts, but their hearts are sometimes unreliable.

As the saying goes: seeing is believing, but what we see with our eyes is not necessarily the truth. On weekdays, we may often make judgments based on what we have seen and heard, which may be based on past experience, and the formation of experience is accumulated according to everyone's different background and various factors, more or less with personal subjective consciousness.
If you only rely on what you see and hear, the same event will get different results for different people. Invisible to "people" caused unnecessary harm; This "thing" may fall short because of the wrong goal.
As the saying goes, a difference of one millionth is a difference of a thousand miles, and the truth of the matter must be judged according to facts and science. Experience and seeing are often subjective, and many misunderstandings can only be avoided through hard judgment.
Chapter four: The short story of Confucius and students.
Tree virtue and tree resentment
Zi Xiao, a disciple of Confucius, is named Gao Chai. In his political career of defending the country, he once used the punishment of cutting off a person's foot.
When there was a riot in the country, Zixiao tried to escape and came to the city gate, only to find that the city gate was closed. The gatekeeper is the man whose foot was once cut off by a lamb.
The man said, "There is a gap in the wall over there. You can escape. "
The lamb said, "A gentleman can't cross the gap."
The man said, "There is a hole on the other side. You can escape. "
The lamb said, "A gentleman can't escape by drilling a hole."
The man said, "There is a house to avoid."
So the lamb went into the house. After the pursuers left, Zixiao wanted to leave and said to the victim, "I can't damage the laws made by the monarch, so I will cut off your feet with punishment." I'm running away now. This is a good time for you to retaliate and complain. Why did you help me avoid this disaster? "
The man said, "It was because I committed a crime that I had to cut off my foot. Very helpless. At the beginning, when you tried the minister, you first looked for ways to reduce the punishment of the minister according to the law, so that the minister could not be punished by the law, which I know very well; At the end of the trial and conviction, the penalty needs to be determined. You are solemn and sad, and you can show it on your face. I am also very clear about this. You don't want to be selfish with the minister because of one thing, but your natural kindness will naturally do so. That's why I want you to avoid disaster. "
After listening to this, Confucius said: "People who are good at being officials try their best to establish their own moral character;" People who are not good at being officials will always make more enemies. With a just heart to guide their words and deeds, it can probably be said that Purple Lamb did it. "
