It is said that the anrakuji in Zhenhai can be traced back to the Five Dynasties (907 -960 AD) and was built in the second year of Tianfu at the end of Jin Dynasty (937 AD).
The name of Zhenhai anrakuji comes from two legends: First, a legendary monk named "Anle" practiced here and finally got positive results; Second, there is a legendary river (probably Lingyin River) flowing near the temple, hence the name "Zhenhai".
Now Zhenhai anrakuji is an ancient temple with a large area, which contains the main buildings such as the King's Hall, the Ursa Major Hall and the Pharmacist Hall. In addition, there are many ancient trees and cultural relics, such as the stone pillars in the Yuan Dynasty and the Qianlong stone tablet in the Qing Dynasty. It is one of the important cultural heritages of the West Lake Scenic Area.
