Why didn't Liu Bei reuse Zhao Yun all his life?

Anyone who has read The Romance of the Three Kingdoms knows that Liu Bei liked Zhao Yun very much when he first met him. At that time, Zhao Yun was still working under Gongsun Zan. Later, when Gongsun Zan was defeated, Zhao Yun defected to Liu Bei, who was overjoyed.

However, in the Three Kingdoms, Zhao Yun's position under Liu Bei was not as dazzling as expected (except when he was fighting with Dou and Cao Bing), and even Zhao Yun's position was not as high as Wei Yangao's. Every time you charge, let Guan Yu and Zhang Fei fight in front, and Zhao Yun is responsible for the back of the house or escorting food and grass. It was not until Zhuge Liang gained a firm foothold that this situation improved slightly. Because Zhuge Liang reused Zhao Yun. Why is this?

As we all know, Zhao Yun is a perfect man! His martial arts were not lost to Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, but he caught up with Lu Bu and Lv Fengxian. His character is noble and he has been loyal to Shu Han all his life. He is also a general with rare wisdom and Zhuge Liang's most handy military commander.

However, we know that Zhao Yun has never been valued by Liu Bei in his life. Although he has the title of five tigers and generals, it is an honor, not real power. His rank is inferior to that of Guan Yu and Zhang Fei. You can say that these two are Liu Bei's sworn brothers. Not as good as Ma Chao, because they are all armed forces, and they also lead their own troops; However, Zhao Yun can't even compare with Wei Yan.

Not as good as Wei Yan, some can't be said! On martial arts, Zhao Yunyuan is better than Wei Yan; On personality, Wei Yantou has an anti-bone; As far as credit is concerned, Zhao Yun was a military man all his life, and Wei Yan surrendered to Shu Han in his later period. However, as a result, Zhao Yun's rank is not as good as Wei Yan's.

So what is the reason for this result?

We know that Zhao Yun was under Gongsun Zan. Although Zhao Yun and Liu Bei liked each other as soon as they met, because of different camps, Zhao Yun could only watch Liu Zhang Guan play together. Later, after the defeat of Gongsun Zan, Zhao had the opportunity to defect to Liu Bei. This shows that Zhao Yun is a "monarch, monarch and minister" at heart.

Later, when Liu Bei was the most powerful and began to enfeoffment heroes, Zhao Yun said: Now the world is undecided, and it is not the time to do this. The subtext of this statement is not to say that Liu Bei is recovering the country for the Han Dynasty. Now that the world is unstable, Liu Bei is not qualified to do such a thing. This offended all Liu Bei's generals.

Everyone comes out to mix, who doesn't want to have an official position and shine? Zhao Yun, you don't want to be a general. Don't interfere with our road to official wealth. Therefore, Zhao Yun's temper is not suitable for staying in officialdom.

The second important reason is that Liu Bei doesn't want Zhao Yun to be a general who can only take the lead. He needs to find a bodyguard for Liu's family, and Zhao Yun is undoubtedly the most suitable candidate.

There were many war generals in the early Shu and Han dynasties. Guan Yu, Zhang Fei, Ma Chao and others are all world-class generals, but their ability to protect the people is not good. Zhaoyun once rescued Adou from Changbanpo with seven in and seven out, but others really couldn't.

Chen Shou once commented on Zhao Yun in the "History of the Three Kingdoms": "Strong, strong, fierce, a pawn, and its irrigation is also soaring!" Guan refers to Guan Ying (note 4) and Teng refers to Hou Ying. Xia Houying and Liu Bang are old friends with profound friendship. Xia Houying has been driving Liu Bang since he joined the army. After a crushing defeat, Liu Bang saw that the pursuer behind him was chasing after him very tightly. In order to reduce the burden of the car, he threw his children out of the car, but Xia Houying stopped to take them back. After the same situation happened three times in a row, Liu Bangcai gave up.

In addition, Zhao Yun once intercepted a river to rescue Liu Bei and Sun Quan's sister, and those who were cheated back to Soochow followed. As a result, Zhao Yun stopped him halfway and took Dou back!

Based on the above two points, Zhao Yun saved Adou's life, plus Zhao Yun is younger. Liu Bei thinks that after a hundred years, it is the most reliable to protect Adou by Zhao Yun. Selfishly speaking, Liu Bei intends to train Zhao Yun into a personal bodyguard of the Liu family. Later, on his deathbed, he entrusted Adou to Zhao Yun, which was an honor that other ordinary people could not enjoy.

It can be said that Zhao Yun is not destined to be a general like Guan Yu. He is more suitable to be a court hermit, and he will appear when he is needed.
