Founding history

The Asian Badminton Championship was founded in 1962 and is an event sponsored by the Asian Badminton Federation. Once a year, most competitions are held in Southeast Asia. At the same time, we can see the importance of badminton in these countries.

The 2005 competition was held in Hyderabad, India. Wang Chen of Hongkong, China defeated Japanese players to win the women's singles title, while Sony of Indonesia won the men's singles title. In the 2004 Asian Championship, China sent a second-tier team to participate, and only won the runner-up in women's doubles. The Asian Badminton Championship in 2003 was quite special, with no star rating and no world ranking.

Only Dai Hua and Zeng Yaqiong played in China. Finally, Dai Hua ranked third, and the champion was Wang Chen from Hongkong, China. Jakarta not only hosted the Asian Championship in 2003, but also hosted this competition many times in the past. In 2000 and 2006, China's Gong Zhichao and Xie won the women's singles championship respectively.
