Why are men's badminton called Thomas Cup and women called Hubert Cup?

British badminton star George Thomas is the founder of Thomas Cup. In the nearly 30 years from 1903 to 1928, Mr. Thomas won the amphibious champion of men's singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles in all-England badminton competitions for many times. After retiring, he took part in the work of the International Badminton Federation. As the main head of the International Badminton Federation, Mr. Thomas put forward a novel proposal to promote the extensive development of badminton in the world at the meeting of the International Badminton Federation Council held in 1939. He proposed to set up a world men's badminton team competition and expressed his willingness to donate a trophy for this competition. Mr. Thomas's proposal was immediately approved by the International Badminton Federation, but due to the Second World War, Mr. Thomas's good wishes were forced to be delayed for nearly ten years. From 65438 to 0948, the International Badminton Federation successfully held the first Thomas Cup Men's Team Championship, representing the men of the world. Since then, with the continuous development of badminton in the world, Mr. George Thomas's name has always remained in the hearts of badminton lovers all over the world.

Thomas trophy is 28 inches high and made of platinum, which is expensive. The word "Thomas" is engraved on the bottom. Different from other international competition trophies, Thomas Cup is a mobile cup, and the champion team of each competition will bring the "soup cup" back to their own country and keep it until the next "soup cup" competition begins. Therefore, Thomas Cup is also called "International Badminton Challenge Cup". So far, Thomas Cup has been held for 18 times (including once every three years before 1982 and once every two years after 1982). In the Thomas Cup honor list, Indonesia won the ninth championship.
