The order of NBA draft is decided by two parts. The 16 teams that entered the playoffs were ranked according to their regular season record. The higher the ranking, the lower the ranking in the draft. The ranking here only considers the record of the regular season, not the results of the playoffs. For example, the Dallas Mavericks in the 2006-07 season topped the list in the regular season, but were eliminated by the Warriors in the first round. But in this year's draft, they are still only the 30th overall pick.
However, teams that fail to make the playoffs will have to draw lots to arrange the draft order.
Before the draw, the official will put 1- 14 balls into a container, and draw 4 balls from them to form a combination. So there are 100 1 combinations. If the combination of 1 1, 12, 13 and 14 is removed, there are 1000 combinations. Subsequently, 14 teams that failed to enter the playoffs were assigned to a certain number of combinations according to their regular season records. For example, the Heat with the lowest record in the regular season will get 250 combinations, which means that there is a 25% chance of winning the first prize. In fact, for the bulls who have won the top prize before, there is only a combination of 17, and only 1.7% of them may win the top prize.
Then the lottery begins. For the first time, which team the four numbers on the four balls belong to, which team will win the first prize. If you draw 1 1, 12, 13, 14, put it back and draw it. The combination drawn in the second round belongs to the second prize. If the result of the second lottery belongs to the team that won the first prize, put the ball back in the container and draw again. And so on until it is decided who will come first, second and third.
After the first three draft picks are confirmed, the remaining 1 1 teams will be ranked in the draft according to the reverse order of their regular season record.
The draft is divided into two rounds, and the draft order of each team in the two rounds is the same.
