The European Basketball League is the highest level basketball competition camp in Europe. It was established in 2000 according to the model of private organization, which broke through the business model of all European sports leagues at that time. The league includes 24 clubs from at least 12 countries every season, and the champion team is crowned in the semi-finals every spring. Basketball has made great progress in Europe in recent years, and has grown with the European Basketball League. The European Basketball League consolidated the highest level of sports competition in five years, and then introduced the concept of commercial sports league to Europe. In addition, the TV broadcast of the European Basketball League even rushed out of Europe. In the 2004-05 season, about 98.7% of European basketball league events were held in Africa, the Middle East, North America and South America.
Competition system: The European Basketball League consists of four stages.
In the first stage (regular season), 24 teams were divided into three groups: A, B and C. Unless there are as many as four teams in a country, the same country should try not to be in the same group. Eight teams played a double-cycle competition between subject and object. After 14 matches, the five teams with the best performance ranked sixth in the three groups and advanced to the next round.
Teams that have advanced to the 16 are divided into four groups according to their regular-season results (A, B, C). The first place in each group and the second place with the best results in the three groups are four seed teams, and the rest teams are also divided into four groups according to their regular-season results. Teams from the same country should not be placed in the same group as far as possible. The former 16 will have a double round robin. After six games, the two teams with the best results in each group will advance to the quarterfinals (playoffs).
In the quarterfinals (playoffs), according to the results of the quarterfinals, the first place is the second place (for example, the first place in Group D is the second place in Group E, and so on). In the playoffs, the best of three games (host-guest-host) system is implemented, and the first team has two home advantages. The winner entered the semi-finals.
The rematch will be held at the designated place, and the single elimination system will be adopted. Two teams from the same country must meet in the semi-final. Then the winner competes for the championship and the loser competes for the third place. The venue for the semi-finals will be arranged before the season.
