How difficult is it for civil engineering majors to find jobs in America?

There are three reasons why it is difficult to find a job in America:

First, the visa.

The reason why it is difficult for international students to find jobs in the United States has always been an objective factor, that is, the restriction of "immigration status." There are no green cards or non-citizens need work visas funded by their work units, and on the first day of issuing work visas every year, applications are often full, and they are often accepted by lottery. It is understandable that many companies don't want to get into this trouble now, so they simply don't recruit international students.

Second, I didn't pay attention during college. There is a famous American saying: What matters is not what you know, but who you know.

To put it bluntly, it is a network. American education trains children to create very important interpersonal relationships by themselves as early as in society. If you have participated in exchange meetings or various social occasions in the United States, you should hear American students actively talk about their advantages and sell themselves.

It may be hard to believe, but 80% of Americans are introduced by acquaintances and then interviewed. This is an important way to find a job in the United States, commonly known as "connections."

However, most international students in China have never considered this issue at all, at least on our himycareer international student platform. They blindly embrace China's educational model and try to improve their GPA. They have no plans for the future, no personal connections and no internship experience.

Third, lack of ability and interview skills.

I think this is the main reason. Enterprises recruit employees who can bring benefits to themselves, and their personal abilities should meet the job requirements. Enterprises don't care if you graduated from a prestigious school. If you are good enough and capable, the enterprise will want you. If you lack interview skills, you don't know how to show yourself, you lack speech skills and communication skills, and naturally you can't show your Excellence in the interview. These two points complement each other. It is particularly important to understand the characteristics of the industry and accumulate interview skills and routines in foreign companies.

In fact, as long as the discipline has mastered the rules of job hunting in the United States, it is particularly difficult for any major to apply for a job in the United States. If you find it particularly difficult, it must be that you are applying for a job in the wrong way, or that you are not strong enough. In short, you should remember that it is not your major that is difficult to find a job, but your ability. The matching degree between the way of job hunting and your personal ability and quality can not meet the recruitment requirements. So, try to improve your job-hunting competitiveness.
