Candidates who graduated from English major universities can be exempted from the written English test. Other written subjects of foreign language candidates are basic knowledge of tour guides, legal knowledge and moral cultivation of tour guides (including relevant laws, professional ethics, policies and current affairs), and service standards and skills of tour guides. The oral test (on-site simulated tour guide exam) is divided into two parts, which examine the candidates' abilities, namely, "the ability of explanation and language expression" and "the service level of tour guides and their ability to deal with special problems and emergencies".

The National Tour Guide Qualification Examination (Shanghai) Series Textbooks compiled by Shanghai Tourism Bureau (2nd edition, March 2007, 2065438+7th printing, March 2002) include Basic Knowledge of Tour Guides, Legal Knowledge and Moral Cultivation of Tour Guides, Standards and Skills of Tour Guides, and On-site Tour Guides.
