In the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty (738), Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty issued an imperial edict: a number of monasteries were built or rebuilt in counties all over the country. These temples are all named after Kaiyuan.
These temples that have been preserved to this day have become well-known temples in Buddhism and have a very high religious status. It can be seen that it is rare for Kaiyuan Temple in Liuzhou to break into the royal temple. According to research, the Kaiyuan Temple in Liuzhou was built in the Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty and destroyed in the late Qing Dynasty. Its original site is in Liu Hou Park.
In June, 2005, after archaeological excavation, the site of a thousand-year-old temple was rediscovered.

Now, looking back at the rebuilt Kaiyuan Temple, another site is located in Dule Park. Although facing mountains and water, the mountain where the main hall is located is lower than the left and right peaks, which is suspected of deceiving the Lord. To the delight of local believers, the rebuilt Kaiyuan Temple in Liuzhou is bigger than the old temple, covering an area of about 87,000 square meters and a total construction area of about 20,000 square meters.
The whole temple complex takes tang style as a model. The overall wooden structure of the Hall of Great Heroes is a combination of engineering wood and traditional wood, which is connected by tenons and rivets. The indoor space is in the form of dome roof, which is rare in the history of engineering wood structure in China.
It is said that Kaiyuan Temple in Liuzhou is the largest Buddhist temple in Guangxi at present, and it is a comprehensive Buddhist cultural sightseeing area integrating ecological, cultural tourism and leisure functions.
